Our aim
We are asking for your help to record our fourth album. Since the release of our last CD Hush! in 2020, audiences have consistently been asking us for more recordings.
Reviews of Hush!
“a sequence of immaculate performances of repertoire from a very wide range of cultures and traditions…bright, focused sound, bell-like tuning and carefully sculpted phrasing” CHOIR AND ORGAN
“If Papagena were an all-male a cappella ensemble … they would be household names in the UK…Certain well-established, all-male groups could learn a thing or two from these fine musicians.” GRAMOPHONE MAGAZINE
About the Project
Since the release of our last album we have continued our tireless research and development of new repertoire for upper voices. Our next CD will showcase many of these discoveries, featuring premiere recordings of commissions and new arrangements, alongside pieces which have become firm audience favourites, but which we have never recorded commercially.
Featured works will include The Gallant Weaver (James MacMillan arr Sarah Tenant-Flowers), This Woman’s Work (Kate Bush arr Jim Clements), Dolce cantavi (Caroline Shaw), Holi (Shivani Rattan) and Music for a while (Purcell arr Gunnar Eriksson), juxtaposing folk, medieval, classical and contemporary works from a wide range of cultures and traditions.
“extraordinary voices” BBC Radio 3, Sarah Walker
“a breath of fresh air” Slipped Disc, Norman Lebrecht
Target: £12,000
Making CDs is expensive, which is why we need your help. We have already raised some money ourselves through savings from concerts, but your money will fund the essential practical costs involved in creating a CD: venue hire; recording, engineering and production costs; equipment; and post production mastering. If we are lucky enough to exceed our target, then any additional funds raised will go towards our fifth album.
