Transform our pavilion into a thriving community space through essential repairs, modern insulation and improved accessibility for all.
Pangbourne Tennis Club has transformed from a small club of fewer than 60 members in 2018 into a thriving community racket sports club. Together with Pangbourne Bowls Club, we now support more than 450 active members and users of all ages and abilities who regularly enjoy our shared facilities.
This remarkable turnaround was recognised when Pangbourne Tennis Club was awarded the LTA National Club of the Year title in 2024.
We are committed to making sport accessible and inclusive. We work closely with local schools, run a growing junior programme, host inclusive tennis sessions for a local special school, organise walking tennis for older and less mobile players, and collaborate with neighbouring clubs to create more opportunities for young players and pickleball enthusiasts. We are continuing to develop plans to widen participation further and reach under-represented groups and disadvantaged groups within our community.
The Tennis and Bowls clubs run a joined up open day every year, attracting many members of the community who can come along and have a go at either sport.
Having successfully revitalised our clubs and activities, we now need support to renovate our ageing pavilion so that it reflects the quality, ambition and inclusivity of the clubs it serves.
Our shared Tennis and Bowls Club pavilion is at the heart of our community. However, the building is now showing its age and is no longer fit for the needs of our growing clubs. Failed external cladding has led to damp internal walls, the windows and doors are deteriorating, natural light is poor, and the lack of insulation and heating means the pavilion is uncomfortable to use for much of the year.
Over the last few years, our clubs have flourished, but the pavilion has not kept pace. We are crowdfunding to help transform this tired and ageing building into a welcoming, accessible and energy-efficient facility that can continue to support sport and community life for many years to come.

The money raised will be used to refurbish and modernise our pavilion. We will replace the failing external cladding, improve weatherproofing, add insulation, install modern double-glazed windows and doors to create a warm, energy-efficient building that can be used throughout the year.

Inside the pavilion, we will address damp issues, replace worn flooring, and upgrade the toilets and changing rooms to modern accessible standards. These improvements will create a welcoming, comfortable and inclusive space for tennis players, bowlers, visitors and the wider community. The header image is an artist's impression showing our vision for the refurbished pavilion. While it reflects the proposed glazing and overall design, it is not an exact representation of the finished building.
The pavilion is much more than a changing room. It is the social heart of both clubs – a place where people of all ages meet, volunteer, learn new skills, build friendships and stay active.
The renovation will create a warm, welcoming and accessible community space that can be used throughout the year, rather than being limited by damp conditions and lack of heating. Improved accessibility will help remove barriers to participation, encouraging more women and girls, older people, less mobile users and those new to sport to get involved.
Whether people are playing tennis or bowls, attending coaching sessions, supporting junior activities, volunteering, taking part in social events or simply enjoying a cup of tea while watching a match, the improved pavilion will strengthen community connections and wellbeing across Pangbourne and the surrounding area.
