 New stretch target

Additional funds raised beyond our initial £15,000 target will further strengthen our vital Advice and Information service at this time of increased demand.

Donate now so anyone can access vital legal advice they need during the pandemic.

Our online advice hub has seen a staggering increase in traffic, with more than 120,000 views so far during this crisis. We need to raise £15,000 to meet the increased demand for this essential service.

Coronavirus has changed how we live and we’ve all had to adapt in a short space of time. New laws, rules, regulations and guidance have made this adaptation stressful, causing major confusion about what we can and can’t legally do.

With large fines for gathering in small groups, ever changing quarantine rules, the criminalisation of protesters and sweeping new police powers, there has never been a greater need for clarity and accurate legal advice.

Liberty’s Advice and Information team offers free, impartial human rights legal advice to anyone who needs it. We’ve worked tirelessly to meet people’s needs during the pandemic.

We created a designated Coronavirus Advice and Information online hub, providing a regularly updated and amended help point for anyone needing assistance. Since April, the hub has been viewed more than 120,000 times by people in need of simple and clear guidance.

We continue to produce tailored advice for protest groups both online and as small carry cards handed to demonstrators, so they are aware of new rules and what their rights are.

And we provided outreach organisations with thousands of bespoke advice cards to help homeless people protect their rights during lockdown.

We now need your help to meet the increased demand for our service. We need to raise at least £15,000. We can then increase our capacity in the short term, train our staff further on the systems we use and do essential outreach work with communities most in need of our support.

The money we raise will be used for:

  • A skilled legal advisor- £10,000: We will extend a temporary post in our team so we can answer more individual queries with tailored advice and meet the extra demands on our service brought about by the pandemic.
  • Outreach work - £3,000: We will create more targeted resources for providing legal advice and information in a practical and accessible way to specific marginalised groups such as people experiencing homelessness and recent migrants.
  • Training - £2,000: We will skill up our staff in using our software packages to improve the efficiency of our query handling and future-proof our service for the challenges ahead.

A donation at any level you can afford will help us reach our target and strengthen our invaluable Advice and Information service at a time when it is both more challenged and more needed than ever.
