Charlie's Therapeutic Palliative Cancer Care

Aim

Provide Palliative Cancer Care with free holistic therapies to anyone affected by Cancer in the community in the comfort of their own homes.

I started Charlie's after my own experience with Cancer, during this time there was not much support away from the hospital, something myself and my family desperately needed.  I found Holistic Therapies after my treatment ended and this really help in my recovery, so I wanted to offer this to anyone affected by Cancer for free so Charlies was born in March 2014.  We started as a small monthly support group and over 5 years have grown into a Therapy Centre where we open 3/4 days a week offering a range of free Holistic Therapies and Support.

I have a fantastic team of 30 volunteers, being a mixture of Helpers, Befrienders and Therapists, all of whom give up their time for free to help people feel better, without the volunteers we would not be able to run.

We provide Palliative Care in the Community to some of our members that are unable to make it into the centre, but the demand for this is high.  Our therapists that offer this are paid a small fee for their time and petrol expenses, but we need to build a bigger team and more funding to enhance on this service.

Many of our members are having active chemotherapy treatment, and this sometimes leaves them housebound, and some of our members become palliative and need care at home.  An holistic therapy, some time, care and attention is imperative during this time, making the person feel comfortable and relaxed.  We also support the rest of the family as they go through a difficult time, provide emotional support.

The money raised will ensure we can build a larger team of Therapists to keep up with the demand of  Home Visits for Palliative Care in our Community.
