We're raising money for three Palestinian organisations that provide support and defend the rights of Palestinians in prison.

by Nejma Collective CIC in London, Greater London, United Kingdom

At Nejma Collective, we stand in solidarity with our Palestinian siblings who are detained in Israeli jails, many without charge or offence. Those detained include men, women and children, targeted for their Palestinian identity and facing extreme conditions of degradation.

In the last 10 days of Ramadan, we are launching a campaign to raise £15,000 for three organisations supporting and defending the rights of Palestinians in prison, detention and interrogation centres. These organisations include the Palestinian Prisoner's Club, Defense for Children International Palestine and Addameer.

The occupation is conducting an intensive and aggressive arrests campaign that has led to the arrest of 8,000 Palestinians just since October 7th – this includes more than 500 children and 64 journalists. Palestinians detained often experience torture and abuse in prisons. Arbitrary detentions are extended for months on end, leaving those detained vulnerable and in a state of limbo.

The Palestinian Prisoner's Society is asking for your donations to cover the expenses of three lawyers carrying out legal follow-up tasks, providing legal consultations, and visitor rights for detainees from Gaza, the West Bank, Jerusalem and the occupied territories, as well as Jordanian and Arab prisoners. The cost for each lawyer is $1,500 USD (£1,187.12), so we're aiming to raise enough money to cover all three (£3,561.26) but aiming higher with a target of £5,000.

We also aim to raise £5,000 each for Defense for Children International Palestine, an independent, local Palestinian children's rights organisation that documents human rights violations and provides legal aid to children, and Addameer, a non-governmental civil institution that supports Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli and Palestinian prisons.

The work of these organisations, who help our Palestinian brothers and sisters, reveals the crimes against humanity prisoners are subjected to and sheds light on the continuous aggression against the Palestinian people. This fundraiser is following on from the event Nejma Collective hosted on 6 March, with representatives from all three organisations in attendance. ALL the money raised will be sent directly to these organisations.

Organisations Supported

The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society is an independent, national, humanitarian, social, and popular association founded on September 27, 1993. The idea behind the organisation was crystallised inside the Israeli occupation prisons by the prisoners themselves. It is considered one of the largest and oldest associations that provide legal defence.

Defense for Children International is the only Palestinian human rights organisation specifically focused on child rights. It has operated since 1997 and is a national section of Defense for Children International, established in 1979 to "promote and protect children's rights in accordance with international standards."

Addameer is a non-governmental organisation founded by a group of human rights activists in 1991 and an executive member of the Palestinian NGO Network and the Palestinian Council of Human Rights Organisations. It provides free legal support to political prisoners, defends their rights and carries out campaigns to end torture and abuse within the prison system.
