Aim

To set up PalCafe: a Palestinian hub in Glasgow: to offer practical support for people in Palestine and a gathering place for communities

Kathy Galloway shared our vision to establish PalCafe - a Palestinian Cafe/Shop in Glasgow, comprising retail space, a cafe offering Palestinian food and drink; and a space for events and gatherings.

She worked tirelessly on this project for our first eighteen months, as a founder Board member, advocate, practical volunteer and holder of the story.  We miss her calm, wise and substantial guidance and practical input.

Here is what she and we have worked on:

The establishment of a retail space for sale of fair trade products from artisans and other producers in Palestine, thereby supporting ordinary people and their livelihood and communities. Stock will include books, ceramics, fabrics, foodstuffs household items and other materials that tell a story.

The cafe will offer high quality drinks and light snacks. It will be a welcoming and comfortable space for Palestinians in Glasgow and for the general public. We hope to generate income to support PalCafe and projects in Palestine such as HIRN.

Through curated events and gatherings, we’d hope to nurture conversations and friendships, promote education and information and facilitate the possibility of practical, positive engagement, including support for the City of Glasgow’s twinning with Bethlehem.

PalCafe will be a non-profit business but run on a commercial basis, with high quality products to generate income for charitable projects.

We are a charity and a community benefit society and currently we organise regular events including pop-up shops, talks, concerts and our monthly PalCeilidhs.

PalCafe is the trading name of Palestine Centre Glasgow Limited, a charity registered in Scotland, charity number SCO54564.

Palestine Centre Glasgow is also a Community Benefit Society (CBS) #9508 registered with the Financial Conduct Authority.
