Aim: To paint and protect the Quarry Centre from the weather and to bring it back to life.
The building now known as the Quarry Centre (QC) was erected in 1880 and became the Kilndown Institute, a Reading Room for the men of the village. A 100 years the last village shop closed, and the building was given by the vicar, to the village. In December 1980, it became the Quarry Centre, housing a mini Farmers Market and Post Office, one day a week and Doctors Surgery twice weekly. Nowadays it is used as a meeting place and coverts to a shop on Saturdays. The QC is a registered non profit making charity, run by volunteers. Weather is taking its toll on the building, which is in need of a repaint and quite a lot of the weather boarding, some original is rotting. This will cost in the region of £15,000.
As the QC is in a Conservation Area, it needs to be neat, tidy and presentable. It is set in a pretty position by the Quarry Pond, an area used by both villagers and visitors alike.
We would like to see the QC bright and sparkling, fit for purpose and ready for the next 140 years and money raised will go towards this aim.
