The extra money would allow for us to purchase a newer and more realiable vehicle.
We are also in the planning stage of a huge project that is based around a long wheel based, high top van that we can take into the community as a workshop/outdoor/mobile classroom. Essentially a mobile On Your Bike. This project will be in excess of £150k+ This project will be grant funded (fingers crossed)
The extra money will go towards this project.
A litle bit about On Your Bike.....
We are a bicycle recycling Charity who support our local community by recycling and refurbishing bikes, not only this, additionally we support people via our social prescription courses, which are all funded so the barrier to participation is as low as possible.
We supply safe, affordable bicycles through our workshops with the help from our volunteers and beneficiaries, supported by our qualified mechanics.
Our workshops provide a supportive environment encouraging those we help to gain confidence in their abilities and self-worth, helping them to engage in practical work as well as social inclusion, all with the aim of supporting their wellbeing and self-purpose.
Our van also enables us to go into the local community and deliver mobile Doctor Bike sessions in partnership with parish councils and organisations including schools and businesses.
Our van is the unsung hero in our Charity! The van is used most days in our local community for outreach programmes, Dr Bike repair sessions (corperate and charitable) and most importantly, our bike collection service.
One of our aims is to to re-use, recycle and rehome bikes. We play an active part in reducing CO2 emissions by ensuring that many bikes are saved from landfill. Millions of bikes are thrown away every year because they have been neglected, abandoned and unloved, at OYB we save that bike and give it a new life. Either by restoring it, using it on our grant funded training course or strip it for parts and recycle the rest. Many bikes last for years if they are maintained. Like most things in society, bikes tend to be another throw away comdity but that is not the case with us!
Without the ability to be able to collect donated bikes, what we do would not be achievable. The bicycle is not only what our charity is based around, it is the tool to help people recover and learn.
Charities like us have to fight for every penny to survive and when a major part like our van breaks, the money just isn't there to replace it. All of our sales instore goes back into the charity and with the help from amazing funders like The National Lottery and Hinckley Point C Fund/Somerset Community Foundation and many more, we are able to provide the courses and outreach but it does not cover everyday expenses.
This is why we are asking for your help with raising funds for a new OYB van!
Please donate what you can afford, it all helps the cause. No one ever knows when life will throw you a curve ball and charities like us might be the lifeline that helps you or someone you know.
