Aim

The Centenary project aims to mark the 100th anniversary of the opening of the hall by building a modern multi use Community Hub in Oxton.

This project isn’t simply about bricks and mortar. It’s about people and community.

For nearly 100 years Oxton War Memorial Hall has been the only public space in the village of Oxton in the Scottish Borders. Generations of local people have come though the doors to participate in a diverse range of activities. Everything from casting their votes to dancing the night away at a social events. It continues to play  a vital role at the heart of community life and in order to continue to do so needs to be refreshed and made fit for purpose in the modern world. As a space it no longer meets the needs of the growing and vibrant village.

The aim of the Centenary Project is to create a modern multi use Community Hub with the addition of space for the successful community owned and run village shop, an additional meeting room/remote working space, a catering kitchen and new toilet facilities.

The shop is another important part of community life, currently trading out of temporary premises which present limitations on the range and quality of service it can provide. It is run entirely not for profit and benefits from the time and generosity of 20 local volunteers.

The project has full planning permissions and a building warrant have been obtained. Over £500,000 in funding has been secured. We were nearly there!

However the recent steep rise in building costs has meant that this sum fall short of what is now required for the project despite a15% contingency.

We are aiming to raise £30,000 through this Crowdfunder to help take us over the line. Your contribution could be the final piece of the financial jigsaw. It will make a difference.
