Extra money will be spent on learning kitchen equipment and additional outdoor equip...
We aim to provide equipment and encourage children to be involved in planting, nurturing, harvesting and cooking of their own vegetables etc
The school has 16 vegetable plots, however they are no longer fit for purpose and require to be replaced. We hope to install new, taller raised beds that will be safe for the children to use. We also need equipment so they can plant, nurture and harvest the veg then cook it in the learning kitchen. Any surplus foods go to the local church cafe for their Warm Space soup initiative or to the local Foodbank. The school also has an orchard and children collect the plums and apples which they cook with. Any fruit they don't use goes to the community where people have made preserves.
They pupils learn to work together and get a sense of pride having planted a seed and seeing it through to something they can cook. Being outdoors also promotes good mental health and physical well-being which is something we all need following the Covid pandemic, but moreso our children.
