Aim

Helping children in Cornwall heal from trauma through accessible, creative therapies that build resilience and break cycles of harm.

At Out of the Woods CIC, we believe every child deserves the chance to grow up feeling safe, supported, and hopeful about their future. Sadly, many children in Cornwall have faced Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), traumatic events such as abuse, neglect, loss, or witnessing domestic violence. The COVID-19 pandemic is also recognised as an ACE, meaning every child has already experienced at least one.

Without support, ACEs can affect children for life. They may struggle with relationships, education, employment, and even face higher risks of serious illness in adulthood. But with the right help, children can rebuild, recover, and thrive.

That’s where we come in. We provide play therapy, music therapy, drama, and creative therapies in safe, non-judgemental spaces where children can express emotions, process trauma, and build resilience. Play becomes their language of healing.

Unlike many services, our sessions are not time-limited. We work at each child’s pace, continuing support for as long as they need to feel safe and ready for change. Last year, we delivered over 1,500 sessions to 61 children, but demand is growing fast.

Each child typically needs around 20 sessions. With costs ranging from £412–£1,512 per child, depending on subsidy, we urgently need your help to reach more children in need.

Your donation will directly fund therapy sessions for children who otherwise may not receive help.

  • £60 funds one play therapy session.
  • £720 funds a minimum play therapy plan for one child. (12 sessions)

By supporting us, you’re not just helping a child recover from trauma, you’re helping break cycles of harm, giving them the chance of a brighter, healthier life.

Together, we can help children in Cornwall move out of the woods and into hope.
