Aim

We're building a fairer, more resilient energy system in Norwich, based on mutual aid, community-owned solar and shared low-carbon heat.

Imagine an energy system built to meet needs, not make profits; where communities own and control their own clean energy, and the benefits stay local.

Our Power is a Community Interest Company in Norwich, working for a fairer and more resilient energy system. We want to put local communities at the heart of the transition to renewables through community-owned solar, heat networks, and shared action on energy and climate.

Why community energy?

Dependence on oil and gas is dangerously overheating our planet, fuelling wars and leaving us reliant on a handful of multinational companies. Community energy can speed up the transition to renewables by harnessing local skills and enthusiasm, providing trusted advice rooted in local needs, and offering climate action that directly benefits local people.

Our work

Since 2024, we’ve provided free and impartial advice to more than 1,000 people, helping them save energy and stay warm. Now we’re developing ambitious projects to help communities in the Norwich area save and generate energy together.

As well as continuing our energy advice work, our plans for 2026-27 include:

  • working with experts and residents to develop a plan for affordable low-carbon heating in Norwich’s dense Victorian terraced streets.
  • training and supporting volunteer energy champions in at least six neighbourhoods (Pilling Park, Hotblack Road, Bowthorpe, Poringland...and your neighbourhood?) to run draughtproofing sessions, share energy-saving tips, and bring people together to solve their energy problems.
  • talks and an ‘open homes’ event to help people consider green technologies for their home.
  • offering energy audits for schools, churches and pubs, to help them save energy and reduce their dependence on gas.
  • developing our first solar installation – watch this space!

How we’ll spend the money raised

Your donation will help fund our core work, including:

  • a community organiser to work with Norwich neighbourhoods on projects to save energy and build resilience
  • investigating sites for heat decarbonisation and solar projects
  • all the absolutely essential everyday stuff that’s hard to get funding for, like admin, insurance, and managing our finances.

How you can help

There are three simple ways to get involved and support our project:

1. Make a donation

Every pledge gets us closer to our goal - and Aviva will match all donations up to £250, doubling the value of what you're able to give.

2. Spread the word

Share our project with friends, family and your wider network. Community energy relies on community! And the more people we reach, the more likely we are to reach our goal.

3. Become an energy champion

If you’d like to be an energy champion for your neighbourhood or community group, we’d love to hear from you. We'll provide training and materials to help you talk to your community about saving energy and ways to take action. Please get in touch through the ‘Contact’ section on our project page or email [email protected].
