Background
The Queen's Theatre Hornchurch is a vibrant producing theatre that entertains audiences in East London, Essex and beyond.
As the cultural hub of the region, over 200,000 people enjoy the theatre's programme every year, including the best in home-produced theatre, visiting live entertainment and inspiring Learning and Participation projects.
The Queen's receives regular funding from the London Borough of Havering and is an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation.
This helps us put theatre at the heart of the cultural life of our community; by creating quality community and youth shows. But with recent cuts to funding, maintaining this high quality has been harder to achieve. We now ask for our audiences and community to support us and help this production be the best yet.
The Show
The Queen’s Theatre community company is producing the hit West End musical Our House. The show will be performed from 27 – 31 July with a huge cast of over 50 local performers. Featuring some of the best songs of the Madness - Our House, Baggy Trousers, My Girl, House of Fun and the all-time classic It Must Be Love - are some of the most popular hits of all time.
The story follows Joe Casey on his sixteenth birthday. He’s treating his girlfriend Sarah to an evening in a brand new luxury apartment – the only problem is, they have to break in. When the police turn up, Joe has to decide run away, or face the music. It’s a choice that will set the course of his life, and his love, forever.
Our House is written by Tim Firth whose work includes the record-breaking Calendar Girls, Kinky Boots, Preston Front and Neville’s Island.
The production is being directed by Ros Philips who is a freelance Director, and Associate Director of Sphinx Theatre. She has previously taken her work to the Royal Festival Hall, The National Theatre and the Mercury Theatre Colchester.
Our Community Company is made up of passionate local people with real enthusiasm for making great productions. Made up of people aged 7 - 80 we aim for an inclusive company from all areas of the community, showcasing the very best of local talent.
