Aim

Dexter was hit by a car and as a result, a big vet bill and needs his front leg amputating which we sadly cannot afford.

On the 24th February, Dexter was hit by a car outside our home and with accidents like this, come potentially big vet bills. We have worked closely with the vets to see if it was possible for Dexter to regain use of his leg through intense physio but sadly, the leg is not responding. He has no feeling in it. It is in his best interest to have the leg removed. We didn't want it to come to this and hoped for a different outcome but sadly this is it.

His front leg will be amputated next week and the total vet bill is estimated to cost around £1300 after what we have managed to already put towards the bill. But sadly, we do not have the funds readily available for a bill of this size. With the cost of living crisis, money is extremely tight right now and we unfortunately do not have spare money at the end of the month. A few people have asked if it would be better (and cheaper) to have him PTS but we can't give up on Dexter, he's one of the family and we love him dearly. Barring the leg, he is a young and healthy cat who still has many, many years ahead of him. Our children absolutely adore him and when he was away from home during his stay at the vets, they missed him terribly. He's very well loved in our home and we want what is best for him and that is to be home with us until a ripe old age. His quality of life will be improved significantly once the leg is amputated. At the moment he is dragging it around behind him, getting it caught on objects and the other cats are wary of him.

We are extremely grateful for any donations towards the vet bill, we know that money is extremely tight right now so even if donations aren’t possible, we appreciate any shares.
