The COVID-19 pandemic has been extremely difficult for many of us and created unprecedented circumstances for many businesses. As a wildlife park our business is all about caring for animals and helping to conserve species for future generations.
Many of you probably already know that the running costs of a wildlife park are very high. Whilst our amazing team of Keepers are working hard every day to ensure that our animals continue to receive the highest level of care, support and comfort, we still have to cover the cost of the feeding them, ongoing veterinary requirements, heating, cleaning and maintenance costs - which run into thousands of pounds each week.
Unlike other leisure businesses, we cannot furlough all of our staff due to the enormous amount of care the animals need on a daily basis.
We received some amazing support last year from all our visitors and annual pass holders. The income for our business is generated from this support. We can’t thank you enough! However, with bills to pay and no people coming through the doors we are asking you to help in any way you can. Even a small amount can help to look after one of our Lemurs!
As some of you may already know we house a number of endangered animals and we want to continue to fight for their future conservation. Our Red Pandas Mei Li and Charu are a breeding pair and they are our ambassadors for this species. It is thought there are only around 2500 Red Pandas left in the wild and we continue to support the Red Panda Network with the work they are doing to conserve their habitat and protect this adorable species.
Willow and Buffy our Red Ruffed Lemurs and our troop of Black and White Ruffed Lemurs are critically endangered in the wild. Endemic to the island of Madagascar, their habitat is under threat. Our troop of Ring-Tailed Lemurs are our ambassadors for protecting this species and little Charlie and Hiccup both born last year are doing well. We continue to support the great work done by SEED Madagascar who work with local communities out in Madagascar to prevent these amazing animals being lost forever from this special island.
Gonzo our Hooded Vulture is a favourite with our visitors, and he continues to fly in our displays to raise awareness for Vultures all around the World that are under huge threat due to poisoning.
These are just a few examples of why it is so important to continue to fight for these animals. Please help us in any way you can, no matter how large or small.
We (the animals included) truly hope to reopen our doors and see you all soon.
Thank you!
