Once driven to extinction, ospreys have returned to Kielder. Watch on our livestream as they raise their young. Support this wildlife story.

High in the treetops on specially built 8-metre nesting posts in Kielder Forest, Northumberland, something extraordinary is happening. After a 200-year absence, ospreys returned to raise their young in one of the wildest corners of England.
On 21st March 2025, we were excited to see the osprey's return from their incredible 3,700 mile migration from West Africa.
And thanks to a livestream nest camera, we watched their daily lives unfold. In late May, three chicks successfully hatched. Since then, sadly one chick died, but the other two youngsters thrived. Named Ingram and Ingoe, these two female youngsters along with their parents, started their epic migration in September. Read our latest update.
And so, with the nest now empty, we send our very best wishes to this brave little family on their epic migration. If we are lucky, we may hear whispers of their travels from our partners in West Africa. But for now, we’ll wait and hope to see them return to Kielder Forest when spring breathes life into the trees once more.
Thanks to the generosity of British Airways, alongside Forestry England supporters, we raised over £20,000 for this incredible project. These kind donations have now funded a brand-new nest site with solar-powered cameras for livestreaming the daily lives of these remarkable birds of prey. We Forestry replaced ageing nest poles, and relocated vital equipment—helping ensure a safe, welcoming home for ospreys when they return to Kielder in the spring.

Every donation — big or small - has helped the osprey's of Kielder Forest.
Kielder’s ospreys face real challenges; harsh weather, migration risks and predators threaten their fragile recovery. Last year, three of the six chicks we monitoring have died. Nature can be harsh. But there is hope.
Forestry England manages more land and trees than any other organisation in England. We provide hundreds of car parks, maintain thousands of miles of trails, and plant millions of trees.
Our woodlands are some of the best places to spot wildlife from large mammals such as deer, to some of the smaller inhabitants such as bats, dormice, butterflies and red squirrels. The land we manage provides homes for wildlife in moors, heathlands, bogs as well as forests and woodlands.
Some of our best-loved wildlife, including osprey's, depends on our careful and sustained land management for their survival.
Forestry England is working in partnership with British Airways to raise funds for this amazing project.
We are also working with other organisations including: Kielder Water and Forest Park Development Trust, Northumberland Wildlife Trust, Northumbrian Water and Calvert Kielder and Kielder Water.
Donate today and be part of this incredible wildlife story.
Working together we can achieve so much more
