Who are we?
Hello and welcome to Ormeau Road Boxing Club, based in Rosario Youth Club. We are very much a cross community group that seeks to provide the highest quality training to people of all ages, backgrounds, skills and abilities.
We are a community-based, volunteer-led, not-for-profit amateur boxing club, dedicated to building resilience and community among diverse backgrounds and ages. We use boxing to nurture discipline, self-confidence and determination.
Who we support
As a club, we focus on helping each individual be the best they can be. We recognise that not everyone involved wants to take part in competitive boxing, but enjoy all the physical, mental social benefits of being a member.
We believe that as a club based in the heart if the local community, we serve the interests of our members, their peers and their families.
Over the years, we have delivered a huge range of activities and projects, but we recognise the need to encourage more females into our club.
Some hard financial choices
Our club has never been about making profits and we therefore intentionally keep prices at a minimum to encourage and offer the opportunity for everybody to learn boxing. This philosophy however, coupled with the financial challenges the club face, means that there are extremely limited opportunities for us to invest in essential personal protection equipment, new training-wear, and cover the cost of 2 professional boxing and fitness instructors.
Why we are Crowdfunding
So we are launching a Crowdfunder campaign and we hope that you can support us.
We want to offer a 12 week specialist programme which will be female only classes, delivered by female coaches, with training methods designed to appeal to girls and women. We want to focus on physical health, general fitness, good diet, sleep and relaxing techniques, prevent and/or manage injuries, offer fun activities in a welcoming and safe environment.
This is why we need your support. We recognise there are significant reasons for people not to take part in sport. One of the major factors preventing girls from a range of backgrounds is cost. So everything we offer our female participants is free access to the gym, training, support and even their training apparel.
How to give to our project
To help get this project of the ground, please go to our Crowdfunder page: https://crowdfunder.co.uk/p/ormeau-boxing-club-girls-box-clever or go to our Facebook page for more details
How we’ll spend the money raised
We hope to purchase a range of personal protection items: Head guards, hand wraps, gum protectors, female chest protectors and so forth.
We are aware that girls respond better to engaging in sport, in the early days, when they are led by female coaches and in an all-girls environment. So we hope to engage the services of 2 female boxing and fitness coaches to lead the project
