Aim

We are raising funds to help communities transform local green spaces into thriving, community-led orchards and gardens.

Who are we, and what is our project about?
The Orchard Project is the only national charity dedicated to the creation, restoration and celebration of community orchards. We bring orchards into the heart of urban communities, working in partnership with schools, local authorities, community groups and landowners. Our aim is for everyone in cities across the UK to be within walking distance of a thriving, community-run orchard.

Your donation to our 'Orchards For All' fundraiser will be used by our team to make a big impact!

🍎 £50 will help towards the cost of tools needed to get forgotten orchards blossoming again. Did you know that many of the veteran orchards we work with are within the grounds of hospitals? The added wellbeing value to patients and the NHS team is immeasurable.

🌳 £100 will pay for some new fruit trees. Our work is actively bringing orchard habitats back from decline - in London alone 90% of our orchard habitat has been lost. Every effort to plant new orchards and revive old ones contributes to reversing that decline.

🤝 £250 will help towards a community training day, ensuring those caring for orchards have all the skills they need to help it thrive for years to come.

Community orchards provide ecological, cultural and social value. They are recognised as ‘Priority Habitats’ by Natural England and DEFRA, making them vital for biodiversity, while also creating inclusive community spaces that strengthen wellbeing and resilience. This project fits Aviva’s Climate Action theme by helping reverse the decline in orchards, restoring habitats, and supporting people to take local action on climate change.

Why are we crowdfunding?
Traditional orchards have declined by around 80% since the 1900s, with losses of 90% in London. The skills and knowledge needed to plant and maintain them are also disappearing. Meanwhile, communities face social isolation, anxiety about climate change, and a lack of access to quality green space.

Funding from this campaign will enable us to:

• Plant and restore orchards in urban areas
• Train community orchard leaders and volunteers in long-term orchard care
• Boost biodiversity through wildlife-friendly design and aftercare
• Bring people together, reducing isolation and strengthening community resilience

How we’ll spend the money raised

Your support will help us:

Create sustainable orchard communities

Planting and restoring orchards with local people, building skills and pride in shared green spaces.

Boost biodiversity 

Through providing aftercare for new orchards, restoring older sites, and creating habitats like ponds and hedgerows.

Offer accredited training 

Opening up green career pathways through our unique orcharding courses, prioritising those facing barriers.

Support outdoor learning 

Working with schools to plant and care for orchards, run outdoor lessons and connect children with nature.

Reach new areas 

Expanding to more cities via a network of trained freelance orchard facilitators.
