What’s the Project About?
We’re working with 400 students from Derby Primary Schools to redevelop our show, "Sir Gawain of the Round Table".
This project isn’t just about putting on a play; it’s about engaging children in the creative process, developing their oracy skills, and making their voices heard. Our interactive approach ensures that the children are not just spectators but active members of our theatre company.
We Will...
- Be running workshops in schools to get their ideas on encouraging quality talk
- Inviting classes into the rehearsal room so they can help direct the actors
- Performing the show for all the children involved at The Robert Ludlam Theatre.
Why This Matters:
Oracy, the skills needed to speak and listen with confidence, are crucial for your child's development. It impacts their confidence, social mobility, and academic success.
Unfortunately, many children face challenges in developing these skills.
Our project aims to address this by integrating oracy with the joy of getting creative, providing a fun and engaging way for children to improve their speaking and listening whilst making and watching theatre.
What's In Store:
This partnership with Derby Theatre and St Ralph Sherwin is just the beginning for our Oracy Theatre project. We will be bringing this project to multiple regions in 2025, all thanks to the amazing input from the children of Derby!
How You Can Support Us:
