On the 13th May 2023 we'd raised £21,080 with 181 supporters in 56 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
Thanks to the generosity of our community, we will be able to do even more with the funds raised towards our stretch target. Any additional funds will go towards making good the space where the current practice nets are creating a covered hard standing area. This will provide players and spectators an outside space where they can shelter from the sun or rain.
S&L Corby Cricket Club is a growing, dynamic community club in the north of Corby town.
Our Club currently has four Saturday teams that play in the Northants County League in divisions 5, 8, 13 and 15, and a midweek Wednesday evening team in the Geddington Midweek League.
The Club has a very strong and successful system for youth cricket development, supporting our four youth teams - U9s, U11s, U13s and U15s who all play in the Wilson Brown Youth League.
We actively participate in the England Cricket Board initiative ALL STARS and DYNAMOS CRICKET for five to twelve-year-old's introducing them to the sport through an eight-week programme.
The Club has a strong family ethos and focuses on further developing our ground and youth set-up. The cricket club aims to produce future cricketers but, more importantly, enjoyment, exercise, friends and mental well-being. We play competitive cricket but with a strong sense of fun.
As well as our teams, we provide our facilities for junior district and county teams, and local schools use our ground regularly throughout the season.
Despite the Club being located in one of the top 20% of the most deprived areas of England and the current cost of living crisis, we aim to make cricket affordable to everyone in our community. We have among the lowest membership prices and match fees in the county. However, this means we need to find alternative revenue streams to improve our Club, and our crowdfunding campaign is central to this.
Our crowdfunding campaign is in conjunction with Sport England and their Places and Spaces fund. Working with projects across the country, Places and Spaces is a match-funding initiative to unite communities and leave a legacy from the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
The new nets will provide our community with a training facility to be proud of for many years to come creating a genuine local legacy of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games in Corby.
Our current cricket nets are long past their best and in a sad state of disrepair. They also point out towards our first team pitch, meaning they can not be used on match days. The bowlers run ups are on grass, and with nine teams training in these nets, they quickly become worn and muddy, making them unusable even with the slightest bit of rain.
2023 will represent a transformational year for Stewarts & Lloyds Corby Cricket Club. This year we plan to lay the foundations for our Club and invest significantly in our cricket playing development.
A successful crowdfunding project will deliver two new fully enclosed cricket nets to support each club member and take our training to the next level. It will also enable us to continue our growth and improve participation in sports at our site.
As the nets will be fully enclosed, members can utilise them whilst matches are in progress, giving greater flexibility to our training schedule.
The project's total cost is £33,594, with the additional funding of £13,594 already in place.
There are three simple ways to help us reach our target and make this exciting project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don't delay if you're going to support us because momentum is critical to our success!
2. Donate a reward and speak to friends, family and businesses in our community about donating rewards. Rewards make supporting our cause more attractive, so the more rewards we can offer, the quicker we can reach our target.
3. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind you! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
