We want to launch Operacast - an in-depth and entertaining general interest opera podcast - in Spring 2019.
We want to launch the UK’s first general interest opera podcast - and we need your help to make it happen!
Every month, we’ll bring you the latest opera news, reviews, interviews and general chat from a panel of leading opera singers, directors and enthusiasts from across the country. We’ll deep dive into the most pressing issues in the opera world, but not take ourselves too seriously whilst doing it!
There are specialist podcasts available which focus on specific companies, themes or composers, however Operacast will be a broad and impartial look at the world of opera for listeners both old and new to the art.
You can listen now to a special preview episode we made in December 2018 to give you a taste of what to expect from Operacast; covering everything from Stanford’s operas, to Anna Nicole, to why we’re so obsessed with the Ring Cycle.
You can choose to listen to the full episode, or a fifteen-minute pocket edition, on our website or on all major podcast providers. The episode is hosted by David Ward and our guest is the conductor Ben Crick.
We’ve created this crowdfund to help us launch Operacast in March 2019 and deliver our first six episodes this year - alongside special daily episodes from this year’s Cardiff Singer of the World to bring you the definitive account of the world’s best young opera talent.
The funds raised from this crowdfund will enable us to
- purchase portable microphones for external interviews and features, and a music licence so we can include recorded music during the podcast
- produce our first six episodes, including covering fees and expenses for our contributors and expenses for conducting external interviews
- broadcast daily from Cardiff Singer of the World 2019
Our aim is to develop our audience and sponsors over the first six months to make Operacast sustainable in the long-term - with your support providing us with the time and resources to make this happen.
Our listeners will be what makes Operacast a success, so we hope that this crowdfund will help you to feel a part of what we’re doing, and we welcome feedback, questions and suggestions as we launch and improve Operacast over the first six months.
Operacast is produced by Northern Opera Group (registered charity 1167501) and recorded at Chapel FM in Leeds, United Kingdom. Our host each month is David Ward (Artistic Director, Northern Opera Group) and we’ll have a top panel of guests and interviewees each month from across the world of opera.
