To offer homeless people in Sheffield the opportunity to access training, courses and gain qualifications to help them achieve employment
Hidden homelessness is a hidden crisis in England, affecting people of all ages and backgrounds. This hidden crisis affects 26 times more people than rough sleeping. In 2019, 280,000* people were affected by hidden homelessness. This meant they spent several nights sofa surfing, sleeping in cars, staying in B&Bs and other temporary accommodation.
Nomad’s unique approach consists of providing long-term accommodation and wrap around support. Our clients are offered a 3-12 months tenancy in shared accommodation. We also match our clients with our Asset Coach to help them realise their ambitions and goals and to achieve opportunities in education, volunteering and employment. And finally, we provide access to one to one counselling services to help our clients manage their mental health.
We have found that accessing these services ensures 91% of our clients maintain their tenancy, and 85% achieve outcomes in education, volunteering, and employment within 12 months.
One key element to this success is funding our clients’ education and training courses, so that new qualifications are not a barrier to success. We need your help to raise £5,000 to make this possible. This amount could fund 33 beauty therapy courses; or 10 forklift licenses; or 21 first aid licenses. Any of these courses could help someone find long-term employment and prevent future homelessness.
If you donate £5 to Nomad Opening Doors we will be able to provide essential stationary to someone starting a college course.
A £10 donations could ensure someone can travel to their course with a travel pass provided by Nomad.
£18.40 a day is all it costs to provide accommodation, support, access to education and an opportunity to build a future.
A £30 donation would pay for a beauty therapy course, enabling someone to become self employed and financially independent.
By donating £50 you would make it possible to fund a dog grooming course, opening the door to new employment opportunities.
Aviva Community Fund has provided £5,900 of match funding
