Opening a Feminist Creative Space in Glasgow

Aim
We are raising funds to open up a feminist community space in Glasgow to run accessible workshops and events.
Agora is spearheaded by creatives AJ Duncan and Séania Strain who both work as artists in Glasgow. Both of our practices are feminist in nature, with a focus on intersectionality and representation within our visual work.
Our vision for Agora is build a feminist creative space through which we can run creative workshops and events which help build better community and give folk a space to gather. This is something we feel is particularly important in a time of rapidly declining third spaces which make it difficult for people to connect and be in touch with their community.
Through Agora, we want to be able to deliver creative workshops and events such as: life drawing, creative networking events, community art exhibitions, art markets, film clubs, wellbeing workshops, quiz nights and creative workshops facilitated by artists across a wealth of disciplines.
Our mission is to use this programme of events as a vehicle to provide better access to the arts to the public, and to provide employment and creative development opportunities to emerging artists and creative practitioners.
Taking a feminist lens to this project is of utmost importance to us in the current climate, ensuring that everybody who attends our events feels safe and welcome. We hope to run a program of events which bring feminist issues to the forefront of projects and make a difference through the work we do. Agora's mission is to be inclusive in nature, welcoming everybody and making it clear that no ableism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia or racism will be tolerated.
In order to bring these plans to fruition we need funding to open up a permanent unit to facilitate these plans in the most accessible way as possible. In order to open up this space, we need a deposit for the unit, furniture and materials to get our workshops started. Any and all donations towards making this plan a reality are so very, very appreciated. All named donors will receive an exclusive invite to our private opening industry night as a thank you for being such as essential part of getting this community space up and running.
