Aim

I hate running. But I've fallen in love with the King's over the last 9 years working there and I'd do almost anything to save it. Even run.

Hello,

My whole job is basically to raise funds for the King's Theatre and now I've agreed to do the same in my spare time too, that's how much I'm committed to it.

Whilst there are many upgrades on the cards for the King's, I thought I would tell you about the ones that mean the most to me. Having started as an usher, I know first hand how disheartening it is have a customer ask to use the lift only to reply that there is none. There is one tiny lift from a weird dark corridor to the stalls and you cannot access any bars or hospitality spaces without using stairs. And if you've ever had the dubious pleasure of entering via stage door, you will know that the first thing you encounter are steps. The stage is virtually inaccessible without climbing stairs.

But in 2024, reconfiguration of stage door, the levelling of the main entrance and two Front of House lifts will make the King's fully accessible for the very first time. Long overdue really but it's only with the scale of this project that such improvements have been made possible.

Unless you're a dance lover like me, this alteration may be of no interest but the stage at the King's is on an angle. Originally this was meant to improve sightlines but the result is that dance is rarely performed at the King's. During the redevelopment a whole host of critical stagehouse changes will be made, but the level stage will mean that more of my favourite performing art will come to Edinburgh, and I can't wait!

So yes, these are two of many reasons that I'm choosing to put myself through the horror of running 10k. Please make it worth my while by donating and help save the King's!
