How We Started
Nearly 8 years ago we started as a small voluntary weather organisation based in the South West of the UK. Since then we have been deeply committed to serving our community through weather data, education, support, and insights. We have seen first hand how extreme weather events are affecting vulnerable communities, and we are continually amazed by the goodwill and generosity of those who have stepped up to help people in need, like those listed in our logo above have committed to us.
Our Mission and Challenges
The increasing frequency and severity of extreme weather events due to the changes in our climate are undeniable. These patterns will only become more persistent and intense in the future, and we believe our work plays a vital role in raising awareness and preparing communities for these challenges. We currently advise and prepare people who could be affected by an extreme weather event by explaining any evasive action that may need to be addressed as a matter of urgency. For example, when a storm is inevitable with strong winds during holiday seasons we publish information of what can be expected with wind directions, creating differing sounds and having the energy to relocate garden furniture, camping equipment and other broken debris from trees and shrubs to be blown around with force. We advice to secure furniture or make safe tents and equipment by double pegging or removing. With waterlogged roads we prepare people again with our advisories to note that through dark hours flooding and puddles of water become invisible until you are upon it. Properties are warned of overflow from local rivers and overtopping of sea and together with advice from Coastguards we explain the difficulties that could occur with strong waves overtopping coastal areas and the fact that these have debris or rocks and stones that could cause injury and sudden strong waves, at only a few inches deep can take people off their feet and move cars in an instant.
These factors, although being seen often here in Cornwall, are exacerbated by the ever warming of oceans and seas throughout the world. The oceans that surround us do influence the weather greatly and with climate change and global warming we have seen an influx of unusual marine life turning up where they are unexpected. Melting polar Ice in itself has a huge impact to our oceans by the melting of fresh water into a saline ocean changes the whole ecosystems, this includes the buoyancy for marine vessels, as well as reducing and changing the habitats on polar region wildlife.
On land, heavy rains cause major damage to farmers crops and fields on which their livestock thrive. Flooding is becoming paramount around world and a strong factor in our publishing's for World Weather posts on our social media sites.
We make people aware of these global changes daily through our social platforms and it has become highly ranked with reaches into the tens of thousands.
However devastating these weather events are for anyone, we are there for our community, they have come to rely on Kernow Weather Team to talk them through an occurring event and talk through the ifs and buts and on many occasions we have assisted people to overcome a fear allowing them to prepare themselves making them feel more comfortable in the situation. We do this through comments or direct messaging and even through direct phone calls.
It is time for people to wake up and see and hear the evidence that climate change is real, and teach them ways in which they can help reduce the impact of these changes through simple things like recycling, using reusable bags, and cleaning up after themselves, as all of these small acts can help our globe to change slower.
Sealife suffers greatly at the hands of global warming with temperatures increasing and salinity reducing, wildlife will need to migrate, it is current knowledge that more sharks are being found in places they don't usually visit and are altering the ecosystems that are needed to help grow a healthy planet, all because of global warming.
Unfortunately, our organisation is facing serious hurdles:
Lack of funding to sustain and grow our efforts.
The struggle to expand our research and collaborate on a global level to address these escalating issues.
Personal funds to incorporate the business as our founders are under extreme pressure, being subject to debilitating disabilities, we are wanting to sustain our personal lives by eventually creating our very own one stop weather data shop for the globe.
Despite these challenges, we work tirelessly, day in and day out, giving back to our community by providing essential weather data and forecasts. Our hope is to grow our non-profit organization, further research, and enhance collaboration to share valuable insights on the increasing global climate challenges. We aim to foster a deeper understanding of these events for the benefit of future generations.
Why We Need Your Support
While we do our best to keep things running, we are at a point where your assistance is crucial.
Your donations will help us:

Purchase equipment and data to produce this on a website making it understandable for all.
Expand our research efforts to collaborate on a global level.
Sustain our team members who are struggling with personal and housing issues.
Continue providing critical information about extreme weather events and how they affect communities like ours.
We truly believe that even the smallest contribution can make a big difference, not just for us but for the many people we help every day.
How You Can Help
If you believe in supporting small business like ours, that work directly with the people, emergency services, and communities affected by weather crises, rescues and for outdoor activities, please consider donating. Your support will help us continue our work and expand it even further.
