Aim

To deliver Climate Change Awareness sessions to community groups under the title 'One Small Change'.

I have been talking about plastic pollution for 16 years then in 2019 I delivered the first 'One Small Change' event at the Arc in Stockton on Tees. The aim was to inform about Climate change and give examples of what we can do about it. I deliver workshops in schools on climate change to school children and ask them to make one small change to benefit the environment. This could be planting trees, litter picking or not dropping litter, reduce/re-use or planting wildflowers. I talk about the importance of Nature and Biodiversity, and the ecosystem that we are part of. The importance of it and what may happen if we don't protect it.

The funding will be used to pay for venues and refreshments and for the time of experts who will come along too. As freelancers we rely on the goodwill of local businesses and funders so we can spend as much time as possible in communities. Connecting people with nature, providing an understanding of the importance of protecting it. I have also set up an 'eco rangers' initiative to get all people to look at nature as they go about their daily business. Just notice it and comment on any changes you notice. Or look for rare wildflowers or plants. This is a great way of appreciating what we have. I set up a facebook page for people to report what they see.

I recently became Chair of the Stockton Community Climate Coalition to work with partners to reduce the carbon footprint in Stockton on Tees, avoid biodiversity loss, increase renewable energy supply and create a more circular society. I was also this years award winner for the Stockton Mayor's Civic Award in the category 'Green Award'.

When I talk about science in schools I quote the importance of trees and plants “One of the most important things we can do to mitigate climate change is to protect our environment, here I provide an example of how photosynthesis in plants and trees removes carbon from our atmosphere. Our environment is part of us and the wildlife that lives within it are part of the ecosystem, a circular society constantly recycling and reusing and renewing.” Julie Harrison MBA, Director, Inspiron Learning CIC.
