I need to raise the entry fees for my 9 music exam challenge, so that I can then concentrate on raising lots of money for my charities.
I'm a teacher of clarinet, alto saxophone, recorders, flute and music theory, so have done many music exams in my time... although not recently. I enter around 30 pupils per year for formal exams though, and another 40-50 for Music Medals. Another brave music teacher recently captured my imagination by taking 8 ABRSM exams on the same day for charity, and I slowly came to realise that I would love to have a go. I've decided to plump for Trinity, as that will make it easier for me to take my exams at my place of work. I am raising money for The Sidney Lawton Trust, which funds music lessons for local children, and Stand Against Violence, a Taunton based charity preventing violence, its long-term consequences and the grief of losing loved ones by delivering violence prevention workshops and talks with young people.
Adding an Initial Grade, I have decided to do 9 exams on the same day, and Trinity has kindly offered to give me a 20% discount on all of the exams. At the moment, I'm planning to take them in June 2020 (although it's possible that I might be ready sooner). Listed below are the instruments I'm doing, the full cost of the exams, and the discounted costs. Once I've raised this, I can put in the entry and start actually raising money for charity. I have chosen two small local charities, which will both really appreciate your generosity.
Full Fee Discounted Fee
Initial Grade Trumpet £42.00 £33.60
Grade 1 Guitar £47.00 £37.60
Grade 2 Trombone £52.00 £41.60
Grade 3 Cello £57.00 £45.60
Grade 4 Xylophone £65.00 £52.00
Grade 5 Singing £73.00 £58.40
Grade 6 Bassoon £81.00 £64.80
Grade 7 Piano £90.00 £72.00
Grade 8 Soprano Saxophone £101.00 £80.80
I have chosen instruments that I don't teach, and five of them are going to be new to me. The other four (Xylophone, Singing, Piano and Soprano Saxophone) are things that I can do up to a point, but working for these particular grades is really going to stretch me.
