'Once Upon a Time' A Christmas Musical: The Album
Birmingham, West Midlands, United Kingdom
Aim
To record an album for a brand new Christmas Musical - 14 songs that convey the magic of the world's greatest story in a powerful new way.
We are inviting you to come on a journey with us, to partner and press in to something special. We have written a Christmas Musical - a collection of songs that tell the greatest story in all the world in a fresh, new, powerful way.
We have been writing songs since we were teenagers, and now have over 80 songs published serving communities in churches, schools and homes across the UK and beyond. But never, in all these years, have we felt what we feel about this new collection of songs we have written!
It is a musical 'for everyone' and we don't yet know exactly how or when it will be on stage (although we have some ideas!), but we know the next step is to get it recorded. This will provide, not only a brand new album to bless and resource so many lives of adults and children at every age and stage, but also the essential musical platform we will need to put the songs on stage down the line.
Some songs take time, some come easily. These 14 songs feel like they have just dropped from heaven to us - over the course of winter 2021-22 they spilled out and then since then we have sat with them, praying, working out what to do, redrafting, refining, playing them to friends. But now feels the time, now feels the moment to step up and step out - in faith, and with YOU, to bring these songs alive.
The plan is to record them this December and to release the album next year whilst also using the recordings as the basis for seeking how to put the songs live on stage.
[Here's us gathering to play through some of the songs late Dec 2022]
A project this size costs quite a lot and as its not our usual 'Worship For Everyone' recordings, we need to seek a different way to fund it, than via a record company - which is where YOU come in!
Because there are more songs than a normal album (14 full songs currently but it may flex to a few more) and because more is involved musically and vocal-wise, we need to raise at least £20,000. The majority of this will cover the actual recording costs, including production costs such as pre-production, studio hire, musicians time, producer time and skill and vocal recording costs. The remainder will enable the basics that are needed to release an album to happen - including artwork and design, some lyric videos and so on. If we raise beyond our essentials target, this will enable video work to capture some of the key songs and communicate the heart of the musical as well as the creation of sheet music and other resources needed to record and distribute the songs well.
[Talking Through the songs in our study/music room: Dec 2022]
We’ve never asked for money before for a project, and would never fund music we weren't 100% confident in, but we feel this is the moment. So, if you’ve enjoyed our music, used our songs or resources over the years, or just want to help get behind us, we would love you to consider if you can help.
Eventually our hope is that these songs will be performed on stage as a Christmas 'musical for everyone' - every age and stage of life, impacted in a powerful way by the greatest story ever told. But, for now, stage 1 is to record and release them to be a blessing in and of themselves as a collection of Christmas songs! Would YOU partner with us to make it happen?
We believe in this, we are asking YOU to believe in us.
Thank you for being in this with us!

ps. Here's a couple of clips from the first time we got some friends round and played through the songs. It's in our home, nothing fixed or polished up - just friends singing along and bringing the songs to life in a room for the first time!
