Aim: To restore and breathe life into a well-loved high street premises, creating Once at Studio 134 - a gallery and ceramics studio.
Once at Studio 134 is both a gallery and a shared studio for skilled makers. Located at the former 'Memories of Mortlake' shop on the Upper Richmond Road West, the Gallery appeals to those with an interest in interior design and ceramics, whilst providing a vibrant and creative space on the local High Street.
Established potter Lindy Barletta and design consultant Anna Stewart are combining their skills in renovation and design to create this gallery concept at a once well-loved location in East Sheen, London.
The old building has been neglected for some time, which is why the restoration costs are substantial. The beautiful picture windows are falling out, there is dry rot in the floors, the wiring is condemned and the plumbing is abominable.
The idea for the gallery was born out of a friendship between Lindy Barletta and Anna Stewart. Together they have a combined expertise in interiors and ceramics and an ability to breathe life into unusual spaces. The ceramics at Once will be made in house and by carefully selected UK based potters. They sit alongside carefully considered homewares which have been chosen for their kindness to the planet and to the end user.
Three years ago Lindy created a beautiful and calm ceramics studio and shop at the nearby Sheen Pottery, which has become a thriving addition to the local high street. Once at Studio 134 will welcome more creative vitality to the high street in East Sheen, and the hope is, to encourage others to do the same for our local community.
With a background in curating and interiors, Anna has designed the small gallery as a domestic space, with the aim of customers feeling at home; free to browse, read, ponder and spend time with the ceramics. Exhibitions of work by invited artists will run each season. The gallery features well-designed and skilfully made pieces of furniture, limited edition prints and textiles which perfectly compliment the main event: the pots.
Lindy Barletta's studio will adjoin the gallery, so visitors can see pottery being made and understand the ceramics process. There is also a shared studio space which will be used by 3 in-house makers.
Once at Studio 134 will open on 3rd July, an online shop will follow at www.oncegallery.co.uk.
Invitations to the opening drinks and further events will be sent to everyone who can help raise these funds.
