Aim: To replace our artificial pitch to ensure great playing facilities for our membership and the wider community.
We are a family friendly, volunteer run local hockey club located in Olton with a proud history of 127 years. We have a thriving membership of over 200 people, ages ranging from 5-75 years old.
We have 12 adult teams across our men's and ladies' sections, playing league fixtures each Saturday across both Midlands and National leagues. Our junior section has representation from under 8 to under18, and at the other end of the membership we have masters hockey at over 35, over 40, over 45 and over 50, as well as a successful mixed team.
Our current Astro Turf is at the end of its life and we need to replace it this summer to ensure National League hockey can continue at West Warwickshire Sports Club next season.
It's not just hockey, the West Warwick’s is also home to a number of other sports and the hockey pitch welcomes 16 other clubs each week, providing facilities for grass roots football coaching and local community groups such as the over 60’s walking football team.
The new pitch will mean that all of the above community groups can continue to play their sport safely and locally for years to come.
In addition to this, we support local schools who do not have hockey available to their students by offering free coaching and equipment and the use of our pitch facility.
With the money raised we would like to be able to contribute to the total needed for a full pitch replacement to include new dug outs and goals. Plus an updated seating area that is wheelchair accessible and therefore available to more spectators.
We are a real community and family based club and have a goal to continue to grow our membership base with a focus on accessibility to those in our community who do not have access to our sport through school or those who are looking to take up a new sport and find an activity that is team based and has the social elements that hockey can offer.
We have partnerships with local schools where we provide playing and training facilities for their school teams as they have no facilities of their own, we also host a number of regional masters training sessions and tournaments.
In the wider community we have been running our successful "Back to Hockey" programme for over 15 years offering low cost coaching to adults who have never had the opportunity to play before or those who maybe played several years before and are returning to the sport, either for fitness, social reasons or both!
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
