Help feed people in Oldham and build a fantastic vibrant kitchen that serves delicious nutritious fabulous food - for eating sharing meeting
We want a kitchen for everyone in Oldham.
A place where people can come together to meet, share and eat.
Communities across Oldham are working together to raise money for a community kitchen in Oldham Food Bank.
The kitchen will be used to cook fresh hot meals and inspire and grow roots to community enterprise whilst celebrating the diversity of Oldham’s rich food cultures and building food resilience.
Thanks to great local traders we are already diverting surplus food from bins to bellies and this kitchen will help us do more!
The Oldham Food Bank, working with food and growing groups across the Borough, needs your support to create this vibrant kitchen that brings people together over a brew and a bite to eat.

UPDATE 25 JAN WE PASSED OUR STRETCH TARGET IN ONE DAY so we have set a new target....
After the super backers have pushed us already past the new Stretch Target we have had some great
discussions around how to make the Community Kitchen even greater We also have discussed how
we can provide pop up cooking learning fun sessions out of hours when the food bank isn’t
operating.
So we would like to ask you as an amazing community of backers to support by promoting our new
Stretch Target for full stainless walls, commercial food processors and cooking equipment set for
community learning including halogen cookers and pans.
We also want to get vertical produce growing systems installed for even more fresh food and have
quality outside dining furniture to take advantage of the pavement location.
So please share our New Stretch Target of £26 thousand and promote a Sustainable Food Future for
Everyone in Oldham.
We are overwhelmed by the actions form our greater community of Backers to date and can’t wait
to move this to action for you all.

Thanks SO MUCH everyone WE made our target. 22nd JAN UPDATE
Well you have all done a great and amazing job supporting the campaign. We have 16 days to go and
the Santander Match Funding took us sailing past our target on Thursday. So a very big Thanks to
everyone who pledged and tweeted support, came to meetings, shared the campaign, came to an
event such as the quiz, donated prizes, volunteered for The Real Junk Food Oldham at their many
pop up food events, bought soup made of surplus food preventing food waste and offered rewards
for pledges. You are all Hero’s!
Many of you have asked us about the Stretch Target and after discussing with The Oldham Food Bank
and Partners the Stretch target is going to be set at £21,000.
The discussions have led to a list of required equipment to ensure we can really turn waste and
locally grown food into a great local food supply. This will enable the many growing groups to
process and explore roots to enterprise and it will also enable groups such as The Oldham Real Junk
Food and others to help everyone in Oldham by turning food waste into healthy meals whilst
reducing landfill and saving carbon.
The list includes a Larger Oven , a Blast Chiller great for preserving food such as the great veg surplus
we usually end up with in late summer , steriliser and other equipment for preserving and lots of
jars, a vacuum packer, a heat sealer , brand new flooring (we have realised we can’t save the current
flooring ) an Apple Press, see the Apple Story from this summer, a project the Oldham Real Junk
Food carried out this Autumn in Partnership with Mio Care at the Grass Roots Orchard in Failsworth
it will be uploaded to the crowd funder page soon.
We also want to increase our Food security by installing a Beehive on the flat roof of the Food Bank
and ensure we support beekeepers to look after our important pollinators which food growing in the
borough relies upon.
So we are launching a Stretch Target today of £21,000 please support us by using social media,
talking to people and promote the new target.

New rewards Get Growing in 2017 with Veg in the Park a great way to get confident in growing your own food. edit

Veg in the Park have teamed up with the Real Junk Food Oldham, If Oldham and Matthew Smith from Brighter Blooms Nursery to bring you some great new Grow your own Workshop opportunities for 2017 on March the 18th at the fantastic setting that is the Veg in the Park growing hub located at Waterhead Park .
On the 18th of March 4 different grow your own awards are available at £10 each with a discounted voucher reward of £35.00 for those who want to attend the whole day.
‘Grow your Own’ Day at Veg in the Park.
18th March 2017
10am: Grow your own herbs to use in cooking.
Join the IFOldham team for a 1 hour workshop propagating herbs by division/cuttings and seeds methods and take home to grow on in a planter provided on the day.
11am: Pea and bean container planting.
Continue with the IFOldham team to plant up pea and bean containers including growing supports and learn how to get the most from your crops. Last summer volunteers and visitors to Veg in the Park loved making broad bean and mint pate from the plot we will also provide you with this recipe as well as your own containers of growing crops to take home and cook and eat.
12pm: Souper Soup and Sowing Salads with Matthew Smith.
Matthew is an award-winning grower from Preston with extensive experience and enthusiasm for food growing and work with community groups, especially groups from inner city areas. Matthew is always very keen to show to wider audiences how food growing is not only fun, but results in very exciting, affordable and nutritious meals. This reward includes a practical Salad growing workshop and some seasonal soup served up by Oldham Real Junk Food
1:15pm: Grow your own plant food.
A workshop teaching you how to grow Comfrey to feed your crops and then how to make a Comfrey brew bottle and use this feed. Also receive a supply of comfrey plants to take home and grow.

Town Centre Pop-up
Had a great day in the town centre today raised £154.89 thanks to everybody hope you enjoyed the food! We have had over £1000 donated in the last 24 hours which is a huge contribution from everyone - residents, partners, local buisnesses, officers and elected memebers. Massive Massive thanks please continue to share the campaign :-)
