Aim
To enhance the coaching structures and coaching skills across our volunteer coaching team to help enhance the skills of our young players.
Who are we?
Na Piarsaigh Eanach Mór is a small rural club located in the midst of the beautiful Armagh countryside. The club, as the cornerstone of our community, has a rich tradition and heritage of serving the local people through the promotion of sport, in particular Gaelic Games.
The Project?
Just like all sports clubs up and down the country, our club has been severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The challenges were and continue to be a major disruption to the day to day running of the club. These challenges range from financial strain, lack of fundraising opportunities, adherence to ever changing regulations & rules, while still trying to provide invaluable opportunities and experiences for our youth members.
During COVID-19 our amazing club volunteers galvanised our local community. The club quickly established a Community Support Group to offer help to vulnerable members. Through securing grant aid we were able to provide shop vouchers & food hampers for those most at risk within our community, while our coaches diligently provided activities and online challenges to keep our youth members active & engaged in sport throughout lockdown.
However, we as a club are still recovering in the aftermath of COVID-19. We continue to serve our community as best we can, by providing the children with the platform and opportunities to lead healthy & active lifestyles. We wish to encourage lifelong participation in sport and physical activity which in turn results in positive changes in mental heath, positive lifelong memories & strong friendships and bonds.
We as a club realise, in order to combat the ill-effects of COVID-19, we must improve our coaching structures, provision of sport, extend our outreach within our local area and most importantly reintroduce FUN back into the lives of the children.
How will we spend the money raised?
We aim to reintroduce FUN back into sport by providing a range of interactive multi-sports coaching sessions, various funday activities & team/character building activities for our youth teams.
We wish to give every youth player a piece of merchandise with the new 'Ógra Na Piarsaigh' logo to inspire participation & belonging.
We wish to update the equipment currently available to our coaches. Most of our equipment is outdated so we plan to have new equipment for each coaching team.
Our aim is to provide expertise coaching and promotion for our ‘Gaelic for Girls’ programme to encourage participation from young girls in the local area.
We hope to embark on a coach education scheme to ensure every new coach/parent is qualified to a minimum of foundation level.
We will also use external agencies and field experts to host ‘Coach the Coaches’ workshops to up-skill & re-energise our volunteer force.
