Aim

Into the wild - creating a retreat on a Scottish island.

Help to create an off-grid hideaway on our croft - come and stay - step into the wild!

We are a family - Phil, Celia, and our children, Isaac (12) and Bea (10) - living on a croft (smallholding) on the beautiful Isle of Mull, off the West coast of Scotland.

Mull is an amazing place to be and we love sharing the Mull magic with our family and friends. We're living in a caravan at the moment and there isn't much space for people to stay so we built a camping hut.

It's pretty basic, although it is insulated and there is a luxury compost toilet.

We want to be able to invite more people so we need to upgrade the hut to make it more comfortable and self-sufficient. We're planning to install a wood-burning stove and build another structure for a solar shower and a cooking area.

The idea is to create somewhere affordable to stay that sits lightly on the land.

It's going to be a fabulous off-grid hideaway in a peaceful spot, nestled beside a hazel woodland, with lovely views and stunning sunsets.

People can come to walk, to fish, to explore, to play on the beach or simply to spend time relaxing, away from the distractions of normal life. It's a place just to be, to connect with nature and with yourself.

Our story

Our dream for many years was to settle in a wild place where we could bring up our children close to nature and live from the land.

Three years ago we were lucky enough to buy an empty piece of croft land.

This bareland croft, Coille Challtuinn (hazel woods), was uncultivated for many years. It has areas of good grazing and shelter, low-growing broad-leaf woodland, bog, bracken, heathery rocky outcrops, abundant wild flowers, moths, butterflies, toads, hen harriers, thrushes, slow worms, red deer, visiting eagles and fabulous views.

It is an extraordinary adventure developing this land into a place where we can live and work, while produciing our food, supporting ourselves through our gardening business, Greenleaves, and, in our spare time, building a house!

Thank you so much for your support

It would be fantastic if you would be able to support us to create this unique hideaway. Then we can invite you to visit us; to experience the magic of Mull for yourself.

Thank you Paul Adams for the video, the (best) photos and the fish.

Thank you also to Tina for your support, advice and patience; to Anna M for your pearls of wisdom; to Anne K for the family snap; to Robin, Lizzie, James P, Avril, James S, Rob and John O - we couldn't have done it without you.

There's always a space for you here!
