New green educational, therapeutic project using growing & planting of trees, supporting people in need & supporting climate change issues
Our OASIS Community Centre and Gardens hosts and manages over 30 projects for people of all ages, needs and interests. We do many projects which are therapeutic and engage with and support people who are unemployed, are living with disadvantage or in deprivation, have mental health issues, disabilities, additional needs etc. We do a number of project
s in our 2 acre community Gardens called 'LIFELINE' projects teaching people how to do gardening, floristry, grow cacti & succulents, create food products with our own produce and now we are going to do a 'LIFELINE' project called 'Trees for Life' where we teach people how to grow trees, nurture trees and shrubs, create hedgerows, plant woodland, working with willow, biodiversity and tree care (pruning and lopping etc). This is all about the community engaging with climate change, biodiversity, sustainability and conservation and working with wood products in sustainable ways.
We work with men
and women in small teams with Sessional workers and we help them to learn not only educational and vocational skills, but also life skills and team work etc. It is a new diversion into a different area which will bring a change in people's lives, opportunities and the potential for their m=health and wellbeing to improve in the future. it is also a great project for the community as it will help green the Bassetlaw community and support the climate change agenda in the future with the trees and shrubs grown from this project.
