OASIS Community Garden - Wild at Heart

Aim

To increase the biodiversity of the Oasis Community Gardens and connect people of all ages with nature and wildlife in their own back garden

Oasis Community Gardens is a 2 acre site in the middle of an urban estate community which we have created from a derelict site over the last. 12 years. It now boasts hundreds of trees, thousands of shrubs and plans and millions of spring bulbs planted by the community, Oasis has over 30 different areas of green space project areas like our Children's Wildlife Wonderland, our Liquorice Garden,  Oasis Orchard,  Cut flower circle and our Cactus Kingdom dome.  

Our vision is to continue to add and create plants and habitat areas to increase the biodiversity of the site and bring more understanding of the natural world into the heart of the local community.  We want to increase education and understanding of nature, habitats, green spaces, horticulture to people of all ages from children to the elderly and give them opportunity to experience new understanding, opportunities and challenges. We also want to enable the local community to create more green spaces, plant more trees, shrubs and wild flowers around the community and explore the biodiversity of  local gardens, green spaces, waste spaces, abandoned spaces and even window boxes, hanging baskets and planters.

We have  over 35 projects running at Oasis Centre & Gardens for all ages and we work through a number of green based projects like 'Nature Quest',  'Gardening for Life', 'Flowers for Life', 'Trees for Life', 'Curiosity Kids' and 'Gardening Workshops' aiming to introduce people to the wonderful world of nature through educational and therapeutic projects and programmes.  We work with children and young people, children with additional needs, young adults, adults, people in need or crisis, unemployed and we use green space projects to achieve therapeutic aims and results in the lives of people in the community whilst continuing to improve the greening and biodiversity of the 2 acre site and also the wider community areas.

We have a team of sessional staff and volunteers who support these programmes and work with all age groups and people groups.   We will use the money we raise to buy plants, trees, bulbs and seeds; gardening tools and equipment; garden items to improve the interest of areas; materials to develop areas of the Oasis Gardens and enable people to get closer to the nature world; materials to build habitats for creatures; funds to support sessional staff; materials to publicise and draw people into these projects. 

We want to increase the opportunities of all people of all ages in the community to explore and be involved in increasing the biodiversity and interest of the green space at Oasis Gardens and the whole area.  We want to leave a legacy for future generations through trees and plants planted and we want to leave a strong and diverse biodiverse world behind us.
