Use this space to give your audience a friendly introduction to your organisation.
Oakwood aims to support every individual to reach their full potential by offering choice and opportunity to achieve positive outcomes within an environment which encourages social interaction and integration into the local community.
Oakwood is used by the wider community who enjoy taking part in our activity programme. There is a broad range of activities and informal learning opportunities to choose from helping individuals learn new skills, gain structure to their week, and meet new people. We provide individuals with an inspiring environment in which they can develop confidence and independence.
We currently offer 20 activities which are attended weekly by over 100 people across 300 half day sessions. The demand for our service is increasing and the money we receive will enable us to continue to provide a varied and engaging programme of activities and hopefully open our services to even more people in our local area.
It’s important to explain the wider impact of your organisation for the whole community, who does it benefit and why?
Oakwood exists to tackle social isolation for adults with learning disabilities.
The need for the service and the impact that it has, has never been more apparent than over the past two years.
Oakwood is one of very few services that have reopened locally since the pandemic and as such, it has experienced a rapid increase in demand. We would very much like to be able to increase our offering to provide some of the most vulnerable adults in our community the opportunity to engage in meaningful activities in a social, safe environment.
This is where you should explain the reason you need to raise money. How is your organisation or community impacted by the cost of living crisis?
Oakwood provides a safe and social environment for people to meet. Activities are run from our own premises and local community buildings which we rent and our services are in increasing demand. With our running costs escalating we need to be sure we can continue to provide the same level of service we currently do and expand our availability. As the cost of living rises impact the people we support, many of whom are on benefits, we anticipate the needs for our service increasing further as more people will be seeking safe, warm environments to meet in.
It’s important to be transparent about how you plan to spend the money you raise. Your audience will be more likely to make a pledge if they can see how their donation will help.
Money raised will help us to meet the increasing costs of running our service including fuel and energy expenses and rental costs.
