National Veterans Support Service
Many Veterans who have put themselves forward for Voluntary roles to support the UK during Covid-19 are unemployed and they are borrowing money from friends & family to be able to carry out their volunteering role. Whilst a selfless and incredibly kind act on their part, we don’t feel very happy about this and would therefore like to raise funds to be able to pay them a wage.
We are asking for your kind financial contribution, no matter how small, to go towards a wage for these Veterans whilst they carry out volunteer roles to support our Country in times of need.
BACKGROUND
The Covid-19 pandemic that has spread across the Globe, has highlighted a critical gap within the support structure and services of the country. We know the veteran community can fill this gap.
The Government called for thousands of volunteers for the NHS. We have seen many veterans returning to volunteer and support their country once more. Volunteering this way is not sustainable. It is time to create a National Veterans Support Service (NVSS).
The NVSS will support the country in times of crisis, but also in times of calmness and safety. A ready-made group of highly capable and skilled people, with a track record of supporting the country, regardless of the demands.
A service made up of former members of the Armed Forces and Emergency services (Police, Fire, Ambulance, Coast Guard etc). A fourth emergency service.
The transition from service leaver to veteran can be difficult. We want to remove the gaps, and retain both the veterans’ skills and motivation to serve.
NVSS veterans will be paid as the cornerstone of support in all areas. We will create a virtuous circle; the NVSS will help veterans, the veterans will help the country, and the country will be saved money supporting veterans which can go to supporting other groups.
