Aim

Nunfest is a FREE 1-day music festival for Nunhead SE15 and beyond. But putting on a festival costs money! Please help us make it happen :)

Hi, I'm Joe, the person behind the crazy idea we're calling Nunfest. I'm 42, work full time, live on Telegraph Hill just up the road from Nunhead, and am already starting to lose sleep over pulling this whole thing together... Thanks so much for stopping by. :)

The idea
Nunfest was conceived after one too many nights crossing London to go and see live music north of the river. Why do they get to have all the musical fun?! And so, the idea was born to put on a FREE one-day music festival in our wonderful local venues, to celebrate what a musically talented and vibrant place Nunhead is.

Nunhead is a fantastic local community, with the perfect focal point - The Green. On Saturday 20 April, local venues will host amazing music acts throughout the day, and you'll be FREE to wander between them all.

The music
From folk at The Waverley to Americana & bluegrass at the Man of Kent, a Cher-themed disco at the Old Nun's Head, kid's musical activities at The Green, rappers at The Pyrotechnists Arms, a band dressed as nuns and a 9-piece Afrobeat act at The Ivy House, awesome DJs at The Golden Anchor, and a special guest to be announced, we think there's going to be something for everyone.

We've already booked over 40 live acts - including Bas Jan, Santana Mongoley, Ye Nuns, Float, Tugboat Captain, Pre Goblin, Lewis Barfoot, Honey Hahs, Crooked Cranes, Una Pettiford and Pocket of Soul, Enjoyable Listens, Special J, Nunhead Community Choir, and Joss Cope. We'll announce even more over the coming weeks...

The venues
We're super excited that we're going to be in NINE (yes, 9!) local venues, and are super-appreciative of their support: The Beer Shop, The Man of Kent, The Golden Anchor, The Green, The Waverley Arms, The Old Nun's Head, The Ivy House, The Pyrotechnist's Arms, Strange Parade.  We'll also open the day on the Green, weather permitting :)

What we need, and why
To keep the event FREE, make it all happen and make it sound good, we need to bring in extra equipment and crew. We also want to pay our musicians and DJs, many of whom make music for a living. We've received generous funding (£2k) from Southwark Council, but we need a bit more to pay our artists and crews. No money is going to the organising team, who are all volunteers. Your kind support will enable us to put on an amazing event for the local community and beyond - one that will help put Nunhead on the musical map!

If you'd like more details about our budget before pledging, do get in touch: [email protected]. We're keen to be as transparent as possible.

Help us get to our stretch target
£3k from this Crowdfunder will give us the financial foundation to make this an annual event - and maybe even for a full weekend next year... Dream big!

Thanks for reading. All support is massively appreciated.

Rewards start at £6. If you can find £20 for the project, you'll get an exclusive Nunfest tote bag, which will look something like this... Be warned, we're only going to make 60 of these (and 32 have been bagged already!), so if you want one, be sure of pledging £20 or more.

Nunhead rocks - right? Let's prove it!

Joe and the Nunfest crew :)
