Aim

Covered all‑weather training space to keep Nuneaton Rugby Club active year‑round, limits weather cancellations and expanding opportunities.

Who are we?

Nuneaton Rugby Football Club is a community rugby club at the heart of Nuneaton.

We provide opportunities for people of all ages to get active, play rugby and be part of a team. From our mini and junior section, which supports more than 300 young players, through to girls’ and women’s rugby, touch rugby and our senior teams, the club welcomes hundreds of people every week.

But we are about much more than rugby.

The club provides a place for people to make friends, build confidence, improve their physical and mental wellbeing and feel part of a wider community.

Our coaches, team managers and committee members are largely volunteers who give up their time to help keep people active and create positive opportunities for the people of Nuneaton.

We now want to make sure those opportunities can continue whatever the weather.

Why are we crowdfunding?

When it rains heavily at Nuneaton Rugby Club, it can mean much more than muddy boots.

It can mean no training at all.

Our club is located on a floodplain, meaning our grass pitches can quickly become waterlogged and unsafe. Once saturated, they can remain unusable for long periods, particularly during the winter months.

This has resulted in cancelled training sessions across the club and can leave children, young people and adults without anywhere to train for weeks at a time.

Unfortunately, there are very few alternative facilities available locally. Floodlit artificial pitches and indoor sports halls are limited and already in high demand from schools and other sports clubs.

When our pitches are closed, we often have nowhere else to go.

We want to change this by creating a new covered, all-weather training area on an existing hard-standing space at the club.

The canopy will provide a safe and reliable space for skills sessions, fitness, strength and conditioning, touch rugby and non-contact activity.

Importantly, this project will help remove a major barrier to being active: unpredictable and increasingly challenging weather.

It will particularly benefit children and young people, our growing girls’ and women’s sections and adults returning to physical activity through touch and non-contact rugby.

We can't control the rain.

But with your help, we can make sure it doesn't stop Nuneaton moving.

How we’ll spend the money raised

The money raised through this campaign will directly support the creation of our new covered, all-weather training space.

Our funding will be used towards:

All-weather canopy: The purchase of a large, double-truss steel-framed and weather-resistant PVC canopy, approximately 24m x 12m.

Groundworks and foundations: Preparing and extending the existing hard-standing area and creating suitable foundations for the structure.

Installation: Professional installation of the canopy to ensure the structure is safe, durable and suitable for long-term community use.

Lighting: Installation of lighting so the space can be safely used during winter evenings when many of our teams train.

Every pledge will go directly towards creating a facility that will serve hundreds of players and members for years to come.

Community impact

This project isn't about creating a training facility for one team.

It is about creating a space for an entire community.

More than 300 mini and junior players currently take part in rugby at Nuneaton Rugby Club. For many of these children, their weekly rugby session is an important opportunity to exercise, spend time with friends and build confidence.

We are also committed to growing girls’ and women’s rugby at the club. Reliable access to facilities is vital if we are going to provide consistent opportunities and continue to grow participation.

Our touch rugby programme provides another route into activity for adults, including people returning to exercise or those who prefer a social and non-contact form of rugby.

The space will also support our senior teams, volunteer coaches and wider club membership.

By reducing cancelled sessions, the project will help people stay active more regularly, maintain important social connections and remain part of the club community.

In the longer term, we believe the facility will also allow us to develop new fitness, wellbeing and community activities.

Our aim is simple:

No child or adult should miss the opportunity to be active simply because our pitches are waterlogged.

One covered space could create thousands of additional opportunities for people in Nuneaton to move, train and connect every year.
