A General Election has been called!
We now need your help to make sure we have Green candidates on the ballot paper. Neath Port Talbot and Brecon, Radnor and Cwmtawe deserve strong, active representation and The Green Party can play an important role in achieving this. We hold mainstream parties to account and we are not afraid to speak truth to power. With The Green Party of England and Wales set to make gains this election, don’t let Neath Port Talbot be left out.
By working with the neighbouring Green Parties of Swansea and Gower, Bridgend and Brecon and Radnorshire, we have found candidates ready to stand on the ballot papers of everyone in Neath Port Talbot. But we can’t make this happen without raising the funds to pay the deposits in each of the parliamentary constituencies we cover.
You will have seen in the May elections that support for the Green Party is growing. Neath Port Talbot has already successfully elected Green Party Councillor Nathan Goldup-John who is making a difference locally, and Green Party members are active in their local communities.
A different future is possible, and more and more people can see it. Your support will strengthen Green voices for a ‘just transition’ and challenge business-as-usual thinking, for a better future for the planet and us all.
Meet our candidates
We are raising money for £500 deposits each for Jan Dowden (Neath & Swansea East seat), Nigel Hill (Aberavon and Maesteg) and Amerjit Kaur-Dhaliwal (Brecon, Radnor & Cwmtawe)
Jan Dowden -Neath and Swansea East
Jan lives in Neath, she is a registered nurse and is passionate about the environment and inclusion. “Over the last few years I have stood as a candidate in various wards within Neath for the green party… I want to empower the under - represented and under- privileged members of society and those that do not have a voice. By voting for me you will be having a person representing you who is passionate, driven and from a background that empathises with the ordinary person in the street. Together we can hold the Conservatives and Labour to account”
Nigel Hill - Aberafan Maesteg
Nigel is a healthcare professional within Neath Port Talbot hospital and a prominent trade unionist.
Ammi Kaur-Dhaliwal - Brecon, Radnor and Cwmtawe.
Amerjit is a former Wales Green Party Deputy Leader. They have a Master’s in Arts and Law and has been researching the water industries. They have recently been fighting to make sure that health, wellbeing and career development is prioritised in the film and TV industry. “Since stepping down as Deputy Leader, I have gone full throttle into working with the Unions, especially Equity, Bectu, Prospect and now, the TUC”.
How much are we raising?
£1500 for three deposits.
Stretch Target: An additional £500 to support campaigning
How much to contribute?:
- £25 - This is a real help towards standing a Green candidate
- £50 - This pays 10% of a Green candidate's deposit
- £75 - £75 is a major help towards a deposit
- £100 - This pays 20% of a deposit - thank you!
- £500 - Fund a whole deposit - massively helpful!
Green votes benefit the Green Party even if we don’t win
If an opposition party has at least one MP, every vote cast for them across the UK benefits the party financially via ‘Short Money’, paid to the party by the government. It’s worth about £1 per vote. This means your vote has a double or even triple impact:
- Your donation gets a Green candidate for Parliament able to challenge the mainstream parties
- By helping Jan, Nigel and Amerjit to stand, your donation enables all the votes they receive to translate into government funding for the Green MPs elected elsewhere
- If Jan, Nigel and Amerjit retain their deposit, those funds come back and can be spent by the Green Party again, so we can keep building strength both locally and nationally
Contesting elections on any scale is financially challenging for a Party with no big corporate donors, so we are relying on small donations from you to enable us to stand in the General Election. If you can chip in, however little, that would be much appreciated. At a time when some major political parties are wavering in their commitment to addressing the climate emergency we need a strong presence from the Green Party to argue for the action which is desperately needed.
