Building Nova Books: a platform helping children develop joyful reading habits.
I’m a primary school teacher with over 12 years of classroom experience, currently teaching Year 4, having taught across all primary age groups throughout my career.
One thing I’ve always been deeply passionate about is reading physical books.
Why don't children love reading?
Children can often spend hours entertained by

These companies spend billions of pounds yearly to keep our young children hooked to these sites.
Every parent wonders... Why doesn't my child choose to read?
Reading is static. No reward. Not social. Independent.
Where's the hook?
How do we get children to return to a book once they have finished one?
My desire to make reading a social habit sparked in June 2025 and that is when I created Nova Books.
A simple but powerful belief:
we need to make it FUN for children to choose to read.
My vision is to build a platform that helps children develop joyful lifelong reading habits by making reading motivating through
- identity
- light gamification
- community
- culturally relevant reading experiences
As both a teacher and parent, I’ve seen how motivation transforms behaviour.

Talking to real users have reinforced what I already believed:
Children can absolutely love reading when we meet them where their interests are.
At the moment, Nova Books is being built as an early-stage platform, but the bigger vision is much greater.
The best part of it all? Children return to reading PHYSICAL BOOKS every day and they have their space to show off their reading journey!
The funds raised will help us:
• Improve the product experience, gamification and reading journeys
• Expand the book ecosystem and personalised reading experiences
• Test and refine with real schools, teachers and families
• Develop event-driven campaigns that make reading exciting and culturally relevant
• Scale Nova Books so it can reach more children nationally and beyond
My long-term goal is simple:
To help create a generation of children who see themselves as readers - not because they were told to read, but because reading became something joyful.
