To refit a dedicated sports centre for the community to enjoy basketball. To encourage young people in sport, leadership & life skills.
Northwich Basketball Club has been running for 15 years and has over 300 members. It prides itself on being a diverse and inclusive club, open to all, with a safe and friendly atmosphere. We are now keen to open up the sport and additional opportunities to as many people as possible. This will enhance both physical and mental health for all by exercise; a community led shared interest; supported mentoring and coaching in sport and business skills and improve volunteering opportunities within the community which will benefit a wide range of individuals and grou
ps.
The team at Northwich Basketball Club have a desire to open up the sport of basketball to all young people and adults alike within our local area in two venues - Northwich and Winsford. The opportunity of a bespoke and dedicated venue at the Rudheath Senior Academy Leisure Centre has been supported by Brio, Cheshire West and Cheshire Council, Basketball England and Rudheath Senior Academy. Whilst much work has been done at the centre already, the club have agreed to upgrade and improve the current basketball provision with a show court, additional height adjustable baskets enabling children of all ages to take part and a wall mounted score board. The venue will be dedicated to our club and available to us 7 days a week. There will additionally be a range of dedicated transportable equipment available for use at the current Winsford venue.

The funds raised from this campaign will provide excellent fixed facilities and equipment at Rudheath suitable for all age groups, alongside flexible transportable facilities and equipment in Winsford ensuring a broader range of young people and adults from across the community can take part both in the sport itself and in varying support roles. The club already has a small active women and girls attendance, but we are committed to expand this side of the club and will be offering many more slots across the range of each week alongside competitive opportunities. As the club continues to thrive, by use of the additional equipment, additional availability of court time and an increased coaching team, there will be further opportunities for all age groups from the very young through to those wishing to join in with walking basketball as an example.
The intention is open this brilliant facility 7 days a week: 5pm - 9pm Monday to Friday and 10am -7pm Saturday and Sunday. This will include training, games, competitions, social events and more.

In addition to the physical facilities, there will be funding, mentoring support and training for new coaches, table officials and referees for the sport encouraging leadership and volunteering opportunities. This will run alongside a computer hub / office where young people can come and learn life and business skills whilst sharing their knowledge of video editing, social media, graphics, and sport video analysis. It will be a safe supportive space encouraging those who are unable to access this equipment and these facilities at home, to become part of the wider club and work as part of a large mixed abilities team

Northwich Basketball Club has a brilliant team behind it, including players, coaches, referees and previous members of Basketball England. They want to enhance the opportunities available to the people in our community of all ages. There will be an increased opportunity for competitive games allowing our young people to excel from within their own community, their own neighbourhood and from their local facilities.
Quite simply this will become a centre of excellence within the sport of basketball, whilst widening opportunities to ensure that no-one can be left out regardless of their individual circumstances.
We are keen to utilise the opportunity of Basketball being played and showcased at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games to springboard the project, increase the fundraising, generate players and volunteers and of course harness the desire to take part in this brilliant sport. This will allow the Commonwealth Games to have a lifelong impact on people from across the community and support the club in becoming the Centre of Excellence it aspires to be. What a lasting legacy that will be!
Your support will enable this club and the community to flourish and put Northwich and Winsford on the map in Basketball.
