Aim

This page has been set up to help the Northampton Type 2 Group. All donations will be split 50/50 between D5185 (25035) and 27056 (D5401)

Both the Class 25 and Class 27 were saved from Vic Berry's scrapyard in Leicester back in 1988 after withdrawal from British railways capital stock having been deemed redundant. Both locomotives were moved to the Northampton Steam Railway at Chapel Brampton station.

The Class 27 was reactivated during May 1988 and the Class 25 was also reactivated in 1993. Both locomotives were operated at this preservation site until early 2000s with both locomotives transferred to the Great Central Railway late 2000s. At this time both locomotives are not serviceable and under going renovation works, with the aim of returning the Class 27 to active service in August/September 2025 after 9 years. Hopefully the Class 25 will following within the next 2/3 years.

The Northampton Type 2 group was formed in the late 2000s aimed at ensuring this pair of "Baby Sulzers" stay as a pair and are maintained and serviceable.

This crowdfunding page has been setup with the aim of accepting donations towards these either of the locomotives upkeep and ongoing works. Obviously maintaining any railway locomotive does not come cheap so any donation, no matter how small will be gratefully received.

We will of course keep providing updates showing works that have been funded by your donations.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
