A short club history
Formed in 2012, North Down Boxing and Fitness club is based in a purpose-built facility in the heart of our local community. Whilst our focus tends to be on our junior squads (under 18) we are committed to engaging with all groups, particularly girls and women, those who have been away from sport for some time and anyone from our wider community who is interested in getting and keeping fit.
At our heart, we are a boxing club. But with the support of countless organisations and individuals, over the years, we have managed to build and maintain a club with fantastic facilities and a fantastic spirit of pride in our people.
Why we are Fundraising
We are lucky to be based in a strong, supportive and welcoming community. However, the last 2 years or so have been difficult for many residents across North Down & Ards, especially our young people.
Whilst tensions and challenges remain, we are determined to be a source of hope and guidance for our young people. We are a community club, run by local residents for the benefit of local people. We have an opportunity to inspire young people who may not feel they are part of our club, to take a different path and engage in positive and worthwhile activities, in a safe and welcoming environment.
What we are planning to do
Fight in the Ring will offer a 12-week boxing and fitness training programme for girls and boys who have, for whatever reason, turned away from sports.
We will offer fun-based fitness sessions, non-contact boxing, space and time to make friends, a chance to get some ‘head space’ and feel included in something positive.
How we will spend the money we raise
We recognise that money can quite often be a reason young people don’t take part in sport, so all our sessions will be free. Also, having the right equipment can be costly. Again, all training equipment will be supplied by the club. Given the club’s premises are in the heart of the community, there will be no travel costs.
We also realise that many will be fearful of not having the right skills. But don’t worry, we will teach you. You may not become the next Karl Frampton, but you will definitely have fun, get fit, meet new friends and who knows, you might (or will) actually have fun.
Why your support is needed
We need your support to help cover the costs of coaching, our ongoing heating & lighting expenses, purchasing essential protective equipment and training wear for participants. We also hope to engage specialists who will guide our young people and help them find ways to live a healthier lifestyle and at the same time, take care of their mental wellbeing.
How you can help
To make sure there is no reason for a young person to take part in this project, we need support from both our friends and from Sport NI. The importance of raising our own money is highlighted by the fact that for every pound we raise through Crowdfunder, Sport NI will match this. This means that if we can raise 50% of the project costs (£10,000) Sport NI will donate £5,000.
If you are a UK taxpayer, you can Gift Aid your donation. There is no cost to you, but the club will be able to reclaim 25% of your donation back from HMRC. This means that if you donate £10 on our Crowdfunder page, the value of your donation to the club will be will be £21.50!!!
Rewards
We have set up some rewards that our supporters can access, so why not take a look and make a donation and claim a reward for yourself, your family or your business.
Thank You
North Down Boxing Club has been so lucky over the years in being able to raise money from our local supporters and we are confident that with your continued support, we can bring to life a project that will offer hope and inspiration to our young people.
