We're still collecting donations
On the 25th August 2021 we'd raised £8,101 with 117 supporters in 28 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
Autobiographical solo show about hope in the face of homelessness and mental health trauma needs your help to get to the Arcola Theatre!
by Nell Hardy in Barnet, England, United Kingdom
On the 25th August 2021 we'd raised £8,101 with 117 supporters in 28 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
Reaching £8000 will allow us to bring in a wellness co-ordinator and an access co-ordinator to make the show accessible for as many people as possible.
"There's a bed for me in a psychiatric ward. So no, they can't tick the box for homeless.
I've been ready for discharge for months. So no, they can't tick the box for madness, either.
No, I'm not mad.
No. I'm not mad.
And they don't have a box to tick for a NoMad."
Using Nell's signature blend of whimsy and intensity, her solo show NoMad based on her own lived experiences is a poetic, dizzying journey through the dissociated mind of one woman who has fallen through society’s cracks too many times.
With devastating authenticity, disarming humour and, ultimately, hope, the show demands the question: who gets to decide what madness is in a society that treats people like this?
Showcased through streaming in an ACE-funded paired down R&D showing in 2020, this production is a ‘screamingly raw portrayal….it will change you’ (A Younger Theatre)
“ an original and promising voice in British theatre.” - Teunkie Van Der Sluijs, Creative Associate at the Young Vic
“Hardy’s heartbreakingly honest portrayal radiates truth.” - A Younger Theatre, ****
“made me positively itch to get back into a theatre” - London City Nights, ****
WHERE ARE WE GOING?
We have just had some amazing news: the Arcola Theatre has asked us to perform in its new space Arcola Outside at the beginning of October, as part of their Today I’m Wiser festival!
Performing at such a respected London venue will really help to put the show and under-represented stories like this on the map, and pave our way to future programming and future outreach work directly with and to improve the lives of the systemically excluded people on whom this show shines a light.
WHERE DO YOU COME IN?
But we need your help. We need to pay our creative team to rehearse and stage the show: at the very least, we need £7000 to make it happen.
If we can raise £8000, we will also be able to bring a wellness co-ordinator to keep the team and particularly Nell safe while working with such personal material, and an access co-ordinator who will help us make the show as accessible to all as possible.
Any money that we raise beyond that will be used to create opportunities for people with lived experience of homelessness or mental health crises who could not normally afford a ticket, to see the show in future performances, and to take part in future workshops.
We so hope you will help us on our way, and spread the word to anyone you know who wants to help us to combat systemic exclusion with creativity, compassion, awareness and hope.
Thank you for reading!
