NO SWEAT: FIGHTING SWEATSHOPS, STITCH BY STITCH

For decades, No Sweat has played a vital role in the fight against sweatshops, supporting workers and their unions in the struggle against exploitation. 

Six years ago, we launched the ‘T-shirt that fights sweatshops’ to challenge the sweatshop system. Now, we’re ready to take things to the next level, and we need your support to do it. 

Our goal is to raise £30,000 to supercharge our impact and build true worker power!

This isn't just about T-shirts; it's about building a movement and workers' power.

HELP US – CHANGING THE GARMENT INDUSTRY ONE T-SHIRT AT A TIME

Unlike typical "ethical fashion," we prioritise solidarity. We partner with trade unions in the Global South to source union-made, organic T-shirts from factories where workers have a voice and can negotiate for fair wages and safe working conditions.  

As a non-profit organisation, all proceeds support our vital campaign work and the Garment Workers Solidarity Fund. This means every purchase directly strengthens trade unions in places like Haiti, Bangladesh, Indonesia, and Myanmar.

THE SWEATSHOP PROBLEM: WORKERS IN CRISIS

• Exploitation: The garment industry is rife with sweatshops, where workers face verbal abuse, sexual harassment, and dangerous conditions.
• Profit Over People: Many brands prioritise profit maximisation, leading to a "race to the bottom" that harms both workers and the environment. This results in poverty wages and abusive working conditions for garment workers.
• False Promises: "Ethical fashion," built on accreditations and social audits, has largely failed to deliver real change.
• Broken System: Reports like MSI Integrity's "Not Fit For Purpose" reveal the ineffectiveness of current auditing systems, which often ignore worker voices and fail to address systemic issues.
• Systemic Issues: Key problems include the lack of freedom of association and the prevalence of poverty wages, trapping workers in exploitative cycles.

THE NO SWEAT SOLUTION: BUILDING WORKER POWER

• Union Support: For decades, No Sweat has championed independent trade unions as the key to lasting change in the garment industry.
• Workers' Power: Our model priorities workers' power through active union support, not just token gestures.
• Union-Made T-shirts: We source organic, union-made T-shirts from factories where workers have a collective voice and the power to bargain for fair wages and safe conditions.
• Real Change: We're committed to driving real, systemic change within the garment industry.
• Reinvesting in the Movement: All profits from our t-shirt project are reinvested into the No Sweat campaign and the Garment Worker Solidarity Fund, directly supporting workers' struggles and building a stronger movement.

HOW NO SWEAT WORKS

We source union-made T-shirts in India and Bangladesh. Profits support our Solidarity Fund and anti-sweatshop campaigns, driving further change.

• Significantly increase our stock levels – enabling us to place larger, more cost-effective orders that will reduce our per-unit costs and make truly ethical clothing more accessible.
• Expand our product range – including a new hoodie that we have had specially designed.
• Expand into Europe – looking to open a branch to supply bands wanting union-made T-shirts on the continent.
• Pay down some debts – we don't have many but the quicker we repay them the faster we can grow.
• Work towards a co-operative model – as we take on new staff we want to make sure our company is owned by the people that run it, workers and campaigners.
