To improve the employability, financial wellbeing and life chances of people with disability.
OUR VISION
Since 1964, Watford Workshop has helped hundreds of people with disabilities to progress into careers with ourselves and with mainstream employers in Southwest Herts and surrounding areas. We are unique in our locality, existing to enable people to live more independently by teaching them work skills through the packing, labelling and light assembly work our customers provide us with. This leads to careers that they and their families did not think were possible before they joined us.
WORK & TRAINING FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITY
Many of the people we help fail to reach their potential, as they tend to leave school with minimal literacy, numeracy, or IT skills. Instead, we want to see young people with disabilities realise their ambitions; conquer social isolation and play as active a role in the community as possible. To achieve this: we give them work experience; help them to build a social network; gain self-esteem; social inclusion and most importantly dignity. So, what we do here is vital.
If we didn’t intervene, many would literally fall through the cracks due to a severe shortage of appropriate training provision in the area resulting in prolonged financial hardship, isolation and poor health. That’s why nowadays Watford Workshop attracts an influx of applicants. Hence this appeal towards sponsoring more young people for training over the forthcoming year.
Unfortunately, many young adults with disabilities are deemed ineligible for care funding and stand little chance of securing mainstream employment, meaning any support you can give us to help us to raise our initial target of £ 1,000 would be amazing. In so doing we can attract match funding from organisations who support our charitable objectives. For those of you who are UK taxpayers, please tick the gift aid box too. Together we will make a major difference for young people with disabilities.
Aviva Employee Giving has provided £640 of match funding
Aviva Community Fund has provided £335 of match funding
Solus Employee Giving has provided £30 of match funding
