All or nothing
This project needs 100% of its target
To provide free, compassionate hair-loss support to oncology and dermatology patients, helping more people access wigs, advice and care.
Project Aim
Our aim is to secure funding to allow Roots to Rise CIC to provide free, specialist hair-loss support to oncology and dermatology patients from Derriford Hospital, alongside our wig-fitting service.
We already provide an average of 30 free patient appointments every month. The need is already there, but with a dedicated pot of funding behind this service, we believe we could reach and support vastly more patients.
Every hour of free support we provide costs Roots to Rise CIC £25. That means a £25 donation could fund an entire hour of one-to-one support for someone experiencing hair loss.
That support includes:
The Primrose Chop – free hair shaving/cutting for patients preparing for hair loss. We aim to see patients as quickly as possible, often within a few hours, recognising what a pivotal moment this can be in a cancer patient's journey.
Free consultations to discuss hair loss, wigs and individual needs.
Free help wearing, fitting, securing and styling wigs, including wigs purchased elsewhere.
Free wig and topper advice, including cleaning, care and maintenance.
Free hair-loss support for patients who may not need a wig but need advice, reassurance or someone to talk to.
Free hair-regrowth advice, including personalised plans as patients begin their recovery.
Ongoing support through telephone calls, emails and social media.
Why funding could make such a difference
At present, we are cautious about actively advertising these services because every additional patient we support creates a cost for the CIC.
We know the need is there, but we need the financial security to meet it.
A dedicated funding pot would give us the confidence to actively promote the service across the oncology and dermatology community at Derriford Hospital. Rather than worrying that advertising could create more demand than we can afford to accommodate, we could actively encourage patients to come forward knowing that we have the resources to support them.
The funding would not simply maintain the service we already provide. It would allow us to grow it, promote it and make it accessible to many more patients who may currently be struggling without support.
We want to be able to say, with confidence:
“Come and see us. You don't have to buy anything. You don't have to pay. We're here to help.”
The funding would allow us to open the door wider.
We could reach more patients, support more families and be there for people at some of the most frightening and vulnerable moments of their lives.
Because sometimes someone doesn't need a wig.
Sometimes they just need someone to shave their hair.
Sometimes they need help making a wig feel like their own.
Sometimes they have bought a wig somewhere else and don't know how to wear it.
Sometimes they need advice about what happens when their hair starts growing back.
And sometimes they simply need someone to say:
“I understand. You're not on your own.”
That is what Roots to Rise is here for.
You don't have to buy your wig from us to come to us for help.
We want every patient experiencing hair loss to know that support is available without worrying about whether they can afford it.
Our aim is to create a service where a patient knows they can come to us at any point in their hair-loss and regrowth journey and speak to someone who understands.
For Crowdfunder's records, we will keep a confidential record of patients who access the free sessions. This will allow us to demonstrate exactly how the funding has enabled us not only to sustain this service, but to grow it, reach more patients and provide support where it is needed most.
£25 gives someone an hour of our time when they may need it most.
Every donation, whatever its size, helps us keep that door open so that when someone facing hair loss reaches out to us, we can always say:
“Come and see us. We're here.”
