Aim

We are raising funds to upgrade showers, basins, toilets, and install waterless urinals to reduce usage and reduce-water usage

For more than 60 years, the Nunthorpe & Marton Playing Fields Association has been a cornerstone of community life in Nunthorpe, Marton, and Ormesby. Established to enrich local wellbeing through sport and recreation, the charity has provided generations of residents with accessible facilities designed to promote active, healthy, and fulfilled lives.

Our Heritage

NMPFA owes its existence to the vision and generosity of Lady Kathleen Harrison, whose dedication to community welfare helped secure vital land and resources for future recreational use. Her legacy continues to guide the Association’s mission, ensuring that sport and outdoor activity remain at the heart of life in South Middlesbrough.

Sport and Recreation for All

The Association supports a thriving family of sporting sections, offering opportunities for all ages and abilities, including:

• Rackets ( Squash, Tennis, Table Tennis inc Gym /Saunas, Adult & Junior Football, Quoits, Athlectics, Recreational Social Club

These activities help create positive social connections, lifelong friendships, and healthier lifestyles.

A Community Social Hub

Our work is further supported by a dedicated recreation licensee social club, hosting a wide variety of social events throughout the year. It provides a welcoming space where members of the community can relax, connect, and celebrate shared achievements.

A Living Legacy

The NMPFA continues to invest in facilities and community programmes that improve lives through participation, belonging, and engagement. The passion of volunteers, supporters, and our sporting members ensures that Lady Harrison’s legacy is not only preserved but actively built upon for future generations.

NMPFA welcomes everyone. Join in, get active, and be part of a proud local tradition that continues to shape the recreational and sporting landscape of our community.

What are we hoping to do

Sport England , The Movement Fund will match every £ raised.

The funding will be used to purchase and install modern, water-efficient equipment across our facilities to reduce consumption and waste. Expenditure will focus on:

Installation of water-saving fixtures: Replacement of outdated taps, shower heads, and installation of waterless urinals and updated dual flush toilets with low-flow, sensor-controlled units.

Plumbing upgrades: Modernisation of pipework and fittings to eliminate leaks and improve system efficiency.

Monitoring and control systems: Introduction of smart meters and automatic shut-off valves to track usage and prevent excess water flow.

Facility refurbishment: Associated works required to install and integrate new equipment into existing changing rooms, shower areas, and toilet facilities.

Professional installation and compliance checks: Engagement of qualified contractors to ensure all works meet regulatory and safety standards.

This structured investment will ensure measurable reductions in water use, lower utility costs, and a more sustainable operation that aligns with environmental improvement and facility modernisation objectives.

Community impact

Improving equipment and reducing water usage delivers clear, practical benefits for both the community and members:

  • Lower operating costs: Reduced water consumption helps control utility spend, allowing more funds to be reinvested into facilities and community activities.
  • More reliable facilities: Modern showers, toilets, and metering improve performance, reduce breakdowns, and enhance user experience.
  • Environmental responsibility: Lower water usage supports sustainability goals and demonstrates responsible stewardship of community assets.
  • Long-term resilience: Upgraded infrastructure future-proofs the site against rising utility costs and regulatory change.
  • Community value: Efficient, well-maintained facilities strengthen the charity’s ability to serve members, residents, and local groups over the long term.
