Aim: Donate to the fight for Full NHS Contracts at St Helier and Epsom hospitals in Surrey

“We are the pillars of this hospital – but we’re treated like second-class citizens.”

We are nearly 300 cleaners, porters, and catering staff at St Helier and Epsom hospitals in Surrey. We are Black, brown and migrant workers, and we are the backbone of these hospitals — but we are not treated like equals.

We clean wards, move patients, serve meals, and keep the hospital running — but we’re treated like we’re disposable.

Even though we work for the NHS and are employed directly by the hospitals, we are denied the terms and conditions guaranteed to other NHS staff under Agenda for Change (AfC) contracts. That means:

  • Lower pay – we earn £13.85/hour, while NHS colleagues doing the same jobs earn £14.92 or more

  • No extra pay for nights or weekends, missing out on rates up to £27/hour

  • No proper sick pay from day one

  • Worse pensions – just 3% contributions, compared to 23% in the NHS scheme

  • Less holiday – only 24 days, with no increase for long service

We were brought back in-house in 2021 and were promised equality. That promise was broken. Our pay has been frozen ever since.

We’ve waited four years. Enough is enough.

Now, for the first time ever at these hospitals, facilities workers are balloting to go on strike — and we need your help.

We’re not asking for more than anyone else — just the same. Equal pay. Equal sick pay. Equal pensions. Dignity

WHY YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS

Please support our strike fund. Your donation will help us stay strong while we take strike action, cover essential living costs during lost wages, and build pressure on NHS bosses to come to the table and negotiate. This fight isn’t just about us — it’s about ending second-class treatment for hundreds of NHS workers.

We’re standing up for ourselves, for our families, and for every NHS colleague denied the equality and respect they deserve.
